Job description

Operates industrial forklift truck to perform material handling assignments. Identify and transport material to and from storage areas, machines, loading docks, and/or trucks. Works under general supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Obtains copy of production schedule or shipping order and transports material or equipment to and from designated areas in the plant.
  2. Identifies many types of raw material, in process or finished product, equipment, or processing materials. Check identification of materials to be moved, cross-references with production schedule or shipping schedule, and moves to required location. Reports inconsistencies or problems to supervisor.
  3. Familiarizes self with productive capacity of machines or loading schedule of shipping services to assure prompt delivery of required items to proper destination, so that equipment does not shut down for lack of supply.
  4. Keeps tally or count of product moved and reports to production planning department.
  5. Removes empty skids or pallets and stacks in designated area.
  6. Must perform preventive maintenance on forklift truck, i.e., changing propane tank or batteries, change oil and water, etc. Reports mechanical or electrical difficulties to supervisor.
  7. May also use other equipment.
  8. May handle and dump scrap materials as needed.
  9. Keep work areas clean and orderly. Responsible for conducting all works in a safe manner.
  10. May perform other duties as requested.
  11. May participate on project teams as requested.
