Job Summary:

The Greenskeeper is a key member of the course maintenance team and is responsible for the landscaping and maintenance around the golf course under the supervision of the golf course superintendent and assistant superintendent.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Operates some equipment used in golf course maintenance such as walking greens mowers, tee mowers, string trimmers, fly mowers, backpack blowers, push mowers, hand saws, loppers and sod knives.
  • Participates in annual flower planting around the properties, weed and debris clean-up in flower beds, weed removal from bunkers, cart path edging and brush projects.
  • Maintains equipment fluid levels such as gasoline or diesel throughout the day.
  • Reports equipment maintenance needs to the mechanic in a prompt manner.
  • Ensures that all equipment is washed properly and returned to its designated location and charging station, if applicable.
  • Performs bunker maintenance by raking.
  • Hand waters areas such as greens, tees and fairways, as needed.
  • Incorporates safe practices in job performance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE

  • Ability to be alert, on time, properly attired and ready to receive instructions promptly at the beginning of shift.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instruction.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must have a willingness to learn.
  • Must be dependable and possess a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work early morning shifts.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is often required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls.
  • They will occasionally be required to balance, stoop, twist upper body, kneel and climb.
  • The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color and peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • Moderate exposure to extreme cold, heat, working outdoors, chemicals, pesticides, gasoline, vibration, pollen, dust, mechanical hazards and electrical hazards.
  • Noise level is typically loud.
  • Ability to work extended hours during golf season including weekends and holidays.
