We are seeking a Social and Digital Media Specialist to provide Social and Digital Media Support to Commander, Naval Surface Group, Middle Pacific (COMNAVSURFGRU MIDPAC) at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam. Additional tasks may be conducted either on ships or at shore activities as requested and directed. This position is contingent upon award of contract.

The specialist will manage social media platforms, ensuring consistent, interactive, and responsive communication reflective of CNSG MIDPAC's values. Tailored engagement tactics such as contests and live sessions will foster community participation and audience retention. Regular analysis of metrics will inform data-driven decisions, optimizing strategies for greater impact while ensuring compliance with Navy directives throughout all digital communications.

What does a typical day look like for a Social and Digital Media Specialist?

You will:

  • Collaborate with Fleet Forces Command to craft and execute a comprehensive digital media strategy that aligns with COMNAVSURFGRU MIDPAC's objectives.
  • Emphasize strategic planning, content creation, platform management, audience engagement tactics, analytics utilization, and compliance monitoring within Navy guidelines.
  • Implement a structured approach to ensure the strategy's adaptability to changing communication trends and organizational goals.
  • Generate engaging multimedia content (videos, graphics, articles, infographics) tailored to resonate with diverse audiences while upholding Navy messaging guidelines.
  • Regularly update and manage social media platforms with high-quality content that reflects CNSG MIDPAC's values and objectives.
  • Ensure accuracy, relevance, and timeliness of content delivery across various digital platforms.
  • Actively oversee and maintain CNSG MIDPAC's social media profiles, fostering continuous interaction, and responsiveness with the audience.
  • Employ tailored engagement tactics such as contests, polls, live sessions, and community-driven initiatives to enhance audience participation and retention.
  • Implement strategies to increase platform visibility, reach, and user engagement metrics.
  • Conduct regular analysis of social media metrics, audience behavior, and campaign performance to derive actionable insights.

What qualifications do you look for?

You might be the professional we're looking for if you have:

  • Authorization to permanently work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Ability to successful complete a background investigation.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Digital Media, Graphic Design, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • A minimum of 35 years of professional experience managing social media, digital communications, or public affairs for a government, military, or large organization.
  • Experience developing and executing social media strategies across platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Demonstrated ability to create compelling written, photographic, graphic, and video content for digital audiences.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud applications, including Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, InDesign, or equivalent multimedia editing software.
  • Experience using social media management and analytics platforms (e.g., Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Meta Business Suite, Google Analytics, or similar).
  • Excellent written, verbal, editing, proofreading, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of digital marketing, branding, storytelling, and audience engagement best practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience planning and covering live events through photography, videography, and real-time social media updates.
  • Knowledge of Department of Defense (DoD), Department of the Navy, or military public affairs policies, communication guidelines, and Operational Security (OPSEC) principles is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work effectively with senior leaders, public affairs personnel, and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain any required security clearance or government credentials.
  • Ability to occasionally work outside normal business hours to support command events, ceremonies, exercises, or emergency communications.
