Job description

Overview:

SOC is looking for armed protective security officers (PSO) for a Government contract throughout New Mexico.

Locations: State-wide (primarily in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Las Vegas, Farmington, Gallup, Clovis, Roswell, Hobbs, Carlsbad, and Las Cruces)

*Position is contingent upon contract award*

Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct supervision of PSO employees to include Alarm Monitors, fixed and roving PSOs, and PSOs assigned access control, screening, and badging duties on a Government contract. Supervise assigned employees during a shift, based on assigned location. Directs, trains, monitors and coordinates PSO daily responsibilities. Initiates and serves disciplinary actions in accordance with company policies.
  • Oversee Security operations ensuring all employees are performing all duties in accordance with customer requirements, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and company policies, and regulations. Reviews and finalizes reports for incidents that occur during assigned shift. Reports violations of any policies or procedures to management.
  • Responds to various reported incidents including but not limited to; firearms at posts, investigations, trespassers, civil disturbances, hostile intruders, alarms, etc. During emergency situations often assumes role of Incident Commander and coordinates PSOs activities with first responders. Leads investigations for any incidents involving SOC or Government property.
  • Creates schedules for operations including assigning overtime IAW the respective Union's Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Assists in the review and improvement of work methods, SOP's, organizational features, and structure to achieve optimum efficiency.
  • May be required to stand post as a uniformed PSO during contingency and emergency operations, when no other PSO is available or to quickly address emergency need.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a United States citizen or lawful permanent resident who is currently a member of, or who possesses a verifiable honorable discharge from any component of the United States Armed Forces; been issued a Social Security Card by the Social Security Administration, which bears the applicant's name and social security number; or have verifiable documentation of one experience and one education as listed:
    • Minimum of a High School Diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) from an accredited institution of higher learning, or as identified on DD Form 214.
    • Minimum of two (2) years of security (armed) or one (1) year of law enforcement experience in a full-duty status with a full-service police department in a municipality, state, or federal law enforcement department within the US, and have resigned or retired in good standing. Or, a minimum of two (2) years honorable service as a member of the US Armed Forces component. 1-2 years of supervisory or leadership experience strongly preferred.


  • Must be able to operate under stressful conditions and use sound judgement during investigations and incident responses
  • Must be able to communicate well, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain certification through the State of New Mexico for armed security guards prior to employment.
  • Must be able to maintain certifications and weapons qualifications with the government customer.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of government security clearance/suitability.
  • Shall fluently speak, read, comprehend English, and be able to compose written reports in English.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • May be required to travel within the state for consecutive days up to weeks to attend training.
  • Pre-employment comprehensive physical and medical examination required.

Physical Demands:

Physically able to perform tasks and/or functions listed in performance of assigned duties:

  • Frequent and prolonged walking, standing, sitting, and stooping up to 12 hours per day, either indoors or outdoors, during daytime or nighttime. Outdoor post assignments may require an individual to withstand extreme heat, humidity, cold, and/or severe weather (e.g. snow, sleet, rain, hail, wind).
  • Frequent contract with general public, law enforcement, and dispatch center, requiring an ability to speak clearly and distinctly and remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Ability to remain on post up to four (4) consecutive hours without sitting, eating or relieving bladders/bowels
  • Ability to remain alert for up to 12 hours, with ability to mentally and physically react quickly to a variety of unexpected and dangerous situations.
  • Ability to use post security equipment (handheld and walk-thru metal detectors, X-ray machine, CCTV); ability to use handcuffs, OC Spray, baton, and firearm at any time while on duty.
  • Ability to read post orders, assignments, be-on-the-lookout (BOLO), write report, and respond to both routine and emergency dispatches/orders.
  • Able to subdue violent or potentially violent or disturbed individuals, or intervene in a crisis (e.g. provide emergency first aid or resuscitation while waiting for arrival of paramedics or other emergency personnel).
  • Occasional running, sprinting, lifting heavy weights, moving heavy objects, climbing stairs (e.g. in response to emergencies, ensuring timely and complete facility evacuations, giving pursuit, etc.)
  • Subject to initial, recurrent and random drug screenings

We expect this position will be included in the recent federal Executive Order (EO) and subsequent guidance, requiring federal contractors and employers with more than 100 employees to implement a vaccine mandate; therefore, it is expected that anyone hired into this position will need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencement of employment in accordance with the EO and any subsequent guidance, unless an accommodation is legally required.
