Job Summary
The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a federal work study student in the Communication, Film & Theatre department on the Gainesville campus. The Social Media Assistant supports the department's digital communication and outreach efforts by creating, scheduling, and monitoring content across social media platforms. This role is ideal for a student interested in public relations, marketing, communications, or digital media, and provides hands-on experience in strategic content creation, audience engagement, and brand management.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning and executing social media content across platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and X (Twitter)
  • Create engaging multimedia content (graphics, short videos, captions) aligned with departmental goals
  • Schedule and publish posts using social media management tools
  • Monitor social media channels for comments, messages, and engagement; respond appropriately or escalate when necessary
  • Track and report basic analytics (reach, engagement, follower growth) to evaluate content performance
  • Support promotion of events, programs, and initiatives
  • Ensure all content aligns with university branding and communication guidelines
  • Collaborate with faculty/staff on campaigns and storytelling initiatives

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • The position requires baseline competencies in generating and scheduling social media posts across various platforms, understanding how to reach particular audiences via social media, graphics creation, effective design principles, and writing with clarity and purpose.

Required Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled at the University of North Georgia in a minimum of six (6) credit hours to qualify as a student worker.
  • Applicants must have completed COMM 3730 Social Media or provide a digital portfolio demonstrating commensurate skills and experience.
