Job description

Overview
The College of Architecture, Design and Construction (CADC) seeks applicants for a TES Social Media Specialist in our Office of Commnications and Marketing. This position will report to the CADC Communications Manager and work closely with all CADC units to plan, design, and produce CADC social media content and campaigns, as well as assist in the creation of graphic design, print media, and electronic media.
About the CADC:
The CADC is comprised of three schools: the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture; the McWhorter School of Building Science; and the School of Industrial and Graphic Design. These academic units offer undergraduate and graduate degree programs that are consistently recognized nationally and internationally for their academic excellence and innovations in the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, environmental design, building science, industrial design, and graphic design.
Temporary Employment Services (TES), a unit of the Auburn University Department of Human Resources, is an in-house support center established to meet the temporary employment needs of the university. TES provides qualified and dedicated temporary employees in a wide variety of occupations to meet the staffing needs throughout the campus. Temporary employees are hired for a variety of reasons with the most common being:
  • Assistance in the place of a regular employee who is absent for a specified period of time
  • Additional assistance during periods of abnormal or peak workloads
  • Assistance with special projects
  • Seasonal work
  • Emergencies

Responsibilities
Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
  • Oversees social media accounts for CADC and its three Schools, including monitoring comments and private messages and reporting on reach and impact. Ensures visuals of all accounts are kept up-to-date and fresh. Strategizes ways to grow CADC audience.
  • Curates, writes, edits, and publishes original content on a consistent basis. Ensures CADC's brand consistency through tone, voice, terminology. Reposts content at the request of CADC leadership and CADC Communications Manager.
  • Develops social media campaign ideas and collaborates with entire CADC communications team to plan, organize, and manage these campaigns.
  • Provides original creative ideas to support CADC's social media vision.
  • Curates images to be used by Communications, including but not limited to the website and social media and it's three Schools, publications, posters, etc.
  • May assist with digital photography archives for the CADC and photos for use on social media.
  • Advises and consults with faculty and staff of a department and external entities concerning expected deliverables.
  • May supervise others in the production or coordination of deliverables.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree- no specific discipline
Desired Qualifications:
Degree in Graphic Design, Communications or related field.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Minimum Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of communications & marketing, and graphic and/or web design.

Minimum Technology Skills:
  • Adobe Creative Suite (including but not limited to InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Lightroom) is desired.
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office Suite (including but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

Minimum Skills and Abilities:
  • Express a creative outlook in all efforts (general communications: provide design feedback; photography: create pleasing compositions; social media: ensure photos are properly arranged and create effective stories on Instagram and Facebook).
  • Arrange, schedule and conduct photoshoots.
  • Manage CADC's digital photo archive.
  • Copywriting for social.
  • Manage CADC's social accounts.
  • Curate photos for social and print.
  • Liaise with Auburn University Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM), CADC and School faculty and staff, and outside parties regarding photography, social media, and general communications.
