| Work Environment | Nonprofit organizations, government agencies, advocacy groups | Community centers, grassroots organizations, nonprofits |

Job description
Duke University was created in 1924 through an indenture of trust by James Buchanan Duke. Today, Duke is regarded as one of America's leading research universities. Located in Durham, North Carolina, Duke is positioned in the heart of the Research Triangle, which is ranked annually as one of the best places in the country to work and live. Duke has more than 15,000 students who study and conduct research in its 10 undergraduate, graduate and professional schools. With about 40,000 employees, Duke is the third largest private employer in North Carolina, and it now has international programs in more than 150 countries.
Be You.
At Duke, we believe that equity, inclusion, and belonging are essential to student success. As the Assistant Director of Programming and Training in the Women's Center, you will play a critical role in fostering gender equity, intersectional feminism/womanism, leadership development, and student engagement across our campus community.
In this role, you will collaborate with students, faculty, staff, and community partners to create transformative learning experiences for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. You will advise and mentor student leaders, support identity development, and serve as a campus resource on issues related to gender equity, social justice, and inclusive excellence. This position reports directly to the Director of the Women's Center and contributes to a welcoming, affirming, and inclusive campus climate.
Be Bold.
You will design and deliver innovative programs, trainings, and initiatives that inspire learning, activism, and leadership while advancing the mission of the Women's Center.
What You'll Do:
Educational Programming & Training (35%)
- Develop, implement, and assess co-curricular educational programs focused on gender equity, intersectionality, leadership development, and social justice education.
- Plan and facilitate workshops, discussion forums, speaker events, conferences, leadership programs, and campus-wide awareness initiatives.
- Support signature Women's Center initiatives, including Reproductive Health & Justice programming, Women's History Month, orientation programs, and heritage and awareness events.
- Design and deliver trainings and presentations related to inclusion, identity development, feminism/womanism, and systems of oppression.
- Serve as a campus resource on issues related to gender identity, intersectionality, and social justice education.
Student Advising, Outreach & Partnerships (30%)
- Advise and mentor undergraduate, graduate, and professional students through leadership development, organizational support, and program planning.
- Coordinate and oversee the Women's Center Internship Program, including recruitment, onboarding, training, supervision, and evaluation.
- Facilitate intern development through retreats, weekly trainings, leadership coaching, and community-building initiatives.
- Provide support, advocacy, referrals, and appropriate intervention for students navigating personal, academic, or identity-related concerns.
- Build and sustain collaborative relationships with campus partners, student organizations, alumni, and community agencies.
- Serve on university committees and task forces focused on student engagement, campus climate, inclusion, and gender equity.
Supervision & Administration (15%)
- Supervise graduate and undergraduate student staff supporting programming, outreach, and leadership initiatives.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive team environment that promotes learning, leadership growth, and professional development.
- Contribute to strategic planning, goal setting, and annual program development for the Women's Center.
- Manage program budgets and administrative processes.
- Support communications and outreach efforts through newsletters, social media, digital platforms, and promotional materials.
Assessment & Professional Development (15%)
- Develop and implement assessment strategies to evaluate program effectiveness, student learning outcomes, and community impact.
- Collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data to inform continuous improvement.
- Prepare annual reports and assessment summaries highlighting outcomes and strategic recommendations.
- Engage in divisional, regional, and national professional development related to higher education, leadership development, gender equity, and social justice education.
Other Duties (5%)
- Perform related duties as assigned to support departmental, divisional, and university goals.
