Full-Time Position

Horelyu Dene Ts'edi Kue is seeking a Community Wellness & Outreach Worker who is approachable, compassionate, dependable and comfortable working directly with community members.

This is a community-focused position for someone who enjoys building relationships, connecting with people where they are, and helping individuals and families access the supports and services they need. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of First Nations communities and bring a respectful, culturally grounded and strengths-based approach to their work.

What You'll Do

As the Community Wellness & Outreach Worker, you will:

• Build positive and trusting relationships with Cold Lake First Nations members.
• Maintain an active and visible presence in the community and conduct proactive outreach.
• Connect individuals and families with Horelyu Dene Ts'edi Kue programs, community resources and external services.
• Help members understand and navigate available supports and address barriers to accessing services.
• Provide information, referrals, advocacy and appropriate follow-up.
• Connect members with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, cultural supports and other wellness resources where appropriate.
• Identify emerging community needs, concerns and service gaps and bring them forward to the appropriate team.
• Support prevention-focused programs, workshops, groups and community wellness initiatives.
• Assist with community events and activities.
• Work closely with other Horelyu Dene Ts'edi Kue programs and community partners to support coordinated services.
• Maintain appropriate documentation of outreach, referrals, follow-up and activities.
• Gather feedback and information that helps us understand what is working and where additional support may be needed.

• Understands First Nations cultures, values and culturally grounded approaches to wellness.
• Understands the impacts of colonization, residential schools, intergenerational trauma and barriers experienced by Indigenous individuals and families.
• Has an understanding of trauma-informed, strengths-based and culturally safe approaches.
• Is a strong listener and communicator with good judgement and problem-solving skills.
• Can remain calm and professional when working with individuals experiencing challenging circumstances.
• Understands confidentiality, professional boundaries and when a situation needs to be referred or escalated.
• Can work independently in the community while also being a strong team member.
• Is organized, dependable and able to maintain appropriate records and follow-up.
• Is willing to work collaboratively with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, community partners and service providers.

Qualifications

A diploma or degree in Social Work, Human Services, Indigenous Studies, Community Development, Addictions and Community Support, or a related field is preferred.

We also recognize that strong community knowledge and relevant experience are valuable. A combination of education and demonstrated experience supporting Indigenous individuals, families or communities may be considered.

Experience working in a First Nations or Indigenous community and experience in outreach, prevention, wellness, family support or social services are considered assets.

Requirements

The successful candidate must:

• Provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
• Hold a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation.
• Have current First Aid/CPR certification or be willing to obtain it upon employment.
• Be able to travel locally for community outreach.
• Be available for occasional evening and weekend work based on community and program needs.

Training in Mental Health First Aid, ASIST, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, trauma-informed practice, Naloxone response or related areas is considered an asset.
