Job description

ABOUT 321 THE AGENCY

321 is a full-funnel creative agency built for brands that operate in complex, regulated industries - healthcare, insurance, legal services, home services, and entertainment. We're a fully remote, AI-first team that combines strategic creative with CRM infrastructure, performance marketing, and social media to drive real business outcomes for our clients. We don't just make content - we build systems that perform.

Our clients include nationally recognized brands across healthcare, home services, and entertainment, and we hold ourselves to the standard that every piece of work we put into the world should be measurable, meaningful, and built to scale.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As Director of Social Media at 321, you'll lead the agency's social media department - setting the strategic direction, managing and growing the team, and ensuring our clients' social presence is driving real audience growth and business impact. You'll be the senior voice in the room on organic social strategy, content frameworks, platform trends, and community-driven brand building.

This is a leadership role first. You'll guide a team of social media strategists and content creators while staying close enough to the work to coach with authority, ensure quality, and push the creative bar higher. You'll partner cross-functionally with paid media, creative, and client strategy to ensure social isn't operating in a silo - it's an integrated engine in the broader marketing stack.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Department Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, manage, and grow the social media department - including strategists, content creators, and channel specialists
  • Set the team's operating model: workflows, content calendars, approval processes, and output standards
  • Conduct regular 1:1s and performance reviews, providing strategic coaching and career development support
  • Partner with the Director of Client Strategy to ensure social deliverables align with client goals and account strategy
  • Serve as the escalation point for social-related client questions, challenges, or strategic pivots

Social Strategy & Content Excellence

  • Own the agency's approach to organic social strategy across platforms: Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest, and emerging channels
  • Develop platform-specific content frameworks tailored to each client's audience, industry, and brand voice
  • Set standards for content quality, brand safety, and creative consistency across all client accounts
  • Stay ahead of algorithm changes, platform updates, and cultural trends - and translate those into actionable strategy for the team
  • Lead social audits, competitive analyses, and channel assessments for new and existing clients

Performance & Analytics

  • Define KPIs and reporting frameworks for social performance across the client portfolio
  • Oversee monthly and quarterly social reporting, ensuring insights are clear, actionable, and tied to client business goals
  • Use data to guide content iteration, posting cadence, and format experimentation
  • Collaborate with the paid media team on social content that supports paid campaigns and retargeting efforts

Cross-Functional & Client Collaboration

  • Partner with Creative on visual content standards, campaign conceptualization, and brand-consistent execution
  • Collaborate with CRM and paid media teams to ensure social content supports the full funnel
  • Participate in client-facing strategy presentations, QBRs, and new business pitches
  • Support new client onboarding by establishing social strategy foundations and early content direction
  • Champion the integration of AI tools into content planning, social listening, and efficiency workflows

WHAT YOU HAVE

  • 8+ years of experience in social media strategy and management, with at least 2 years in a department or team leadership role
  • Proven track record managing social media for multiple client accounts simultaneously in an agency environment
  • Deep platform expertise across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Pinterest - including content formats, algorithms, and analytics tools
  • Experience developing social strategies for regulated industries (healthcare, legal, financial services, home services) is a strong plus
  • Strong content sensibility: you know what makes content stop the scroll, build community, and drive action
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills - able to translate strategy to clients and inspire a creative team
  • Proficiency in social media management platforms (Later, Sprout Social, Hootsuite, or similar) and analytics tools
  • Comfort with AI-assisted content tools and a proactive approach to integrating them into workflows
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities across a remote, fast-moving team
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field - or equivalent demonstrated experience

REPORTING STRUCTURE

The Director of Social Media reports directly to the SVP of Strategy and is a member of the agency's senior leadership team. This role directly manages the Social Media department, including strategists, content creators, and any specialist contractors supporting social execution.

COMPENSATION

Salary Range: $100,000 - $115,000 annually, based on experience

321 uses a structured compensation framework aligned to role scope, department impact, and agency revenue contribution. Salary placement within range is based on demonstrated experience and leadership depth. Performance bonus eligibility applies at the director level.

321 BENEFITS

  • 100% remote work environment
  • Flexible scheduling with core collaboration hours
  • Paid time off + agency-observed holidays
  • Professional development and platform/tool access budget
  • Collaborative, AI-forward team culture that values innovation and continuous learning
  • Opportunity to shape and scale a department at a high-growth agency

321 the Agency is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all team members.
