Soc Engineer information

What is a SOC engineer?

A SOC (Security Operations Center) Engineer is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and responding to cybersecurity incidents within an organization. They configure security tools, investigate threats, and implement measures to protect networks and data from cyberattacks. SOC Engineers also create security policies, generate reports, and collaborate with analysts to improve incident detection and response. Their role is crucial in maintaining a company's cybersecurity posture and minimizing risks.

What does a SOC engineer do?

A typical day for a SOC Engineer involves monitoring security alerts, investigating potential threats, and collaborating with team members to respond to incidents quickly and effectively. You’ll review logs and network traffic, conduct vulnerability assessments, and document findings to ensure the organization’s systems remain secure. The role often requires working in shifts to provide 24/7 coverage, and there is frequent interaction with IT, risk management, and other business units. Over time, SOC Engineers can advance to senior analyst roles, specialize in threat intelligence, or move into cybersecurity leadership positions. This dynamic environment offers continuous learning opportunities and exposure to the latest security technologies and attack tactics.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a SOC engineer?

To thrive as a SOC (Security Operations Center) Engineer, you need expertise in cybersecurity concepts, incident response, threat analysis, and a relevant degree or certifications like CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or CEH. Familiarity with SIEM platforms (such as Splunk or QRadar), firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and vulnerability scanning tools is crucial. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and effective communication are valuable soft skills for this position. These skills enable SOC Engineers to detect, analyze, and respond to security incidents efficiently, protecting organizational assets from cyber threats.

How much do SOC engineers make?

SOC engineers typically earn between $70,000 and $120,000 annually, depending on experience, certifications, and location. Entry-level positions may start lower, while experienced professionals with certifications like CISSP or CEH can earn higher salaries, especially in high-demand environments with advanced security tools.

At AMD, we believe technology can change lives for the better. It can heal us, entertain us, and make us more connected, productive, and understanding of the world around us. And we’re looking for talent who feel the same: people who want to leave the planet better than they found it, those who don’t shy away from humanity’s challenges but are determined to help solve them.

AMD is powering the next generation of supercomputing, high-performance computing, cloud, and AI. Whether you’re designing next-gen processors, enabling AI breakthroughs, or creating go-to-market plans, every role at AMD contributes to something bigger — technology that moves the world forward.

THE ROLE:

We are seeking a seasoned SoC DV Lead and Infrastructure Architect with expertise or significant interest in DV infrastructure, methodology and testbench architecture. You have had significant success driving architecture, AI initiatives, product execution and product requirements. You would be accountable driving schedule and managing cost. This senior role will stretch you as you lead architecture teams in new directions, network with our world-class, patent-holding think-tank, and negotiate amongst design teams, marketing, and business unit executives.
THE PERSON:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Define testbench architecture to support product micro-architecture requirements, drive technical verification specifications for SoC and IP blocks to meet those requirements, and provide technical direction to execution teams
  • Comprehend the SOC as a complete system which includes HW (Silicon), FW, to align the modelling for design verification
  • Work cross functionally with IP/Domain architects to identify and assess complex technical issues/risks and develop architectural solutions to achieve product requirements
  • Knowledge sharing and other contributions to design automation
  • As an overall dv lead, responsible for architecture analysis and technical solutions for issues/feature change requests and provide risk mitigation
  • Support Post-Si teams, DFT teams and Performance teams

 PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Multiple years of experience of project execution and design verification strategy
  • Outstanding foundation in Systems & SoC architecture, with expertise in one or more of the following: CPU or GPU, Memory sub-system, Fabrics, CPU/GPU coherency, Multimedia, I/O subsystems, Clocks, Resets, Virtualization and Security
  • Experience analyzing dv infrastructure backbone problems and vendor tools
