What is a SOC engineer?

A SOC (Security Operations Center) Engineer is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and responding to cybersecurity incidents within an organization. They configure security tools, investigate threats, and implement measures to protect networks and data from cyberattacks. SOC Engineers also create security policies, generate reports, and collaborate with analysts to improve incident detection and response. Their role is crucial in maintaining a company's cybersecurity posture and minimizing risks.

What does a SOC engineer do?

A typical day for a SOC Engineer involves monitoring security alerts, investigating potential threats, and collaborating with team members to respond to incidents quickly and effectively. You’ll review logs and network traffic, conduct vulnerability assessments, and document findings to ensure the organization’s systems remain secure. The role often requires working in shifts to provide 24/7 coverage, and there is frequent interaction with IT, risk management, and other business units. Over time, SOC Engineers can advance to senior analyst roles, specialize in threat intelligence, or move into cybersecurity leadership positions. This dynamic environment offers continuous learning opportunities and exposure to the latest security technologies and attack tactics.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a SOC engineer?

To thrive as a SOC (Security Operations Center) Engineer, you need expertise in cybersecurity concepts, incident response, threat analysis, and a relevant degree or certifications like CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or CEH. Familiarity with SIEM platforms (such as Splunk or QRadar), firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and vulnerability scanning tools is crucial. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and effective communication are valuable soft skills for this position. These skills enable SOC Engineers to detect, analyze, and respond to security incidents efficiently, protecting organizational assets from cyber threats.

Job description

Are you passionate about pushing the limits of semiconductor and wireless technology? At Falcomm, we are transforming advanced semiconductor innovation into real-world solutions through high-performance, energy-efficient RF technologies. Our mission is to develop next-generation RF power amplifier and system solutions that enable faster, more efficient wireless communication.

Falcomm is seeking a Head of RF SoC Development to lead the architecture, integration, and development of RF system-on-chip (SoC) platforms. This role will drive the design and integration of RF, analog, and digital subsystems into highly optimized semiconductor solutions for advanced wireless applications. The position requires strong technical leadership and close collaboration with cross-functional teams including RFIC design, digital design, packaging, testing, and manufacturing.

The ideal candidate will have deep experience in RF integrated circuit development and system integration, with the ability to guide engineering teams and deliver high-performance silicon products from concept through production.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the architecture and development of RF SoC platforms integrating RF, analog, and mixed-signal subsystems.
  • Define system specifications, performance targets, and design strategies for integrated RF solutions.
  • Coordinate cross-functional collaboration across RFIC, packaging, verification, and test teams.
  • Oversee the full silicon development lifecycle from architecture through design, tape-out, and silicon validation.
  • Drive system-level trade-offs across performance, power consumption, chip area, and manufacturability.
  • Guide integration of RF front-end blocks such as LNAs, mixers, PAs, VCOs, and switching networks into scalable SoC designs.
  • Support silicon bring-up, debugging, and characterization following fabrication.
  • Mentor engineering teams and promote best practices in RF SoC design and development.

Requirements

  • Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • 8+ years of experience in RFIC or RF SoC design and development.
  • Strong understanding of RF system architecture and integrated circuit design.
  • Experience delivering silicon products through tape-out and validation.
  • Must be willing to work full-time, onsite, in Atlanta, GA.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with RF front-end architectures including LNAs, mixers, PAs, VCOs, and frequency synthesizers.
  • Familiarity with RFIC design tools and simulation platforms such as Cadence or ADS.
  • Experience integrating analog, RF, and digital subsystems within a single SoC platform.
  • Strong leadership and cross-functional collaboration experience in semiconductor product development.

Benefits

  • Competitive Salary and Equity Package
  • Comprehensive Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan
  • Paid Time Off (PTO) and Sick Leave
