What is a SoC Architect job?

A System on Chip (SoC) Architect is responsible for designing and defining the hardware architecture of integrated circuits used in various electronic devices. They work on system-level design, performance optimization, power efficiency, and integration of multiple components like CPUs, GPUs, memory controllers, and specialized accelerators. SoC Architects collaborate with hardware and software teams to ensure seamless functionality and scalability. Their role is crucial in industries such as consumer electronics, automotive, and telecommunications, where efficient and high-performance chips are needed.

What does an SOC architect do?

An SOC architect designs and oversees the security operations center's infrastructure, ensuring effective threat detection and response. They develop security architectures, select appropriate tools, and implement security policies, often working with security analysts and engineers to improve organizational cybersecurity posture.

How much does a SOC power architect make at Apple?

SOCs (System on Chip) architects at Apple typically earn between $150,000 and $250,000 annually, depending on experience and seniority. These roles often require expertise in hardware design, digital logic, and verification tools, with some positions offering additional bonuses and stock options.

What is the highest paid type of architect?

In the architecture field, specialized roles such as enterprise or solutions architects, often found in IT and systems design, tend to have higher salaries compared to traditional building architects. These roles require advanced technical skills, certifications, and experience in designing complex systems, which contribute to their higher compensation levels.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Soc Architect position, and why are they important?

To thrive as an SoC Architect, you need deep expertise in system-on-chip (SoC) design, digital and analog hardware engineering, and microarchitecture, usually supported by an advanced degree in electrical or computer engineering. Familiarity with electronic design automation (EDA) tools, hardware description languages (such as Verilog or VHDL), and industry certifications like IEEE or ARM Accredited Engineer are highly valuable. Strong project management, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help in translating complex technical requirements into functional designs and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams. These skills are critical to ensure high-performance, reliable chip designs that meet business objectives while supporting innovation and teamwork in a fast-evolving field.

What are some typical responsibilities of an SoC Architect in a project team?

An SoC Architect typically leads the definition, planning, and validation of system-on-chip architectures to meet performance, power, and cost objectives. You will collaborate closely with software engineers, hardware designers, verification teams, and stakeholders to translate product requirements into scalable solutions. Your role often involves overseeing technical specifications, guiding design choices, and performing architectural reviews to ensure integration across various system components. The work environment is dynamic and highly collaborative, offering opportunities to drive technical innovation and mentor junior engineers within the team.

Job description

We are now looking for a Senior Hardware SoC Architect! Do you want to be a part of Artificial Intelligence Revolution? Would you like to work with world-class systems architects and deep learning experts to define the next generation SoC?NVIDIA is developing processor and system architectures that are at the forefront of accelerating machine learning, automotive and high-performance computing applications. We are building the most advanced SoC's in the world for these applications and are looking for SoC architects to join our effort. In this position, you will have the chance to define future aspects of our architectures that bring together NVIDIA GPUs, custom processors and accelerators into a single chip. Your role will be cross-disciplinary, working with software, ASIC design, verification, physical design, VLSI and platform teams. Our SoC architects excel at pushing the state of the art, while making the best engineering trade-offs.

The NVIDIA SoC's Architecture team is seeking a high-quality architect for our Clock and Reset Architecture Team. This position requires an interest in clocks, resets and power management for SOCs. It will also require a strong background in System C-modeling and scripting and an interest in improving methodologies and automations for improving team efficiency.

What you'll be doing:

In this position, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse set of teams to define clock and reset architecture, based on IP and product requirements. This involves working with a broad group of IP architects, designers, verification, Physical Design, Software, DFT, Security, Automotive Safety and others. You will be required to capture these requirements in various architecture documents clearly and drive their reviews. You will be required to develop and improve architectural C-models and support the teams that use them.
