Job Description
The Production Team Member loads, melts and transfers scrap and raw materials to achieve the correct customer chemistry, transfers and casts molten metal into appropriate sizes and lengths to achieve the correct customer specification, operating the homogenizers in accordance with Matalco U.S. work instructions and customer specifications, monitors and adjusts saws to cut billet into appropriate sizes and lengths to achieve the correct customer specification.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • Light industrial experience, mobile equipment experience

  • Understanding of PC's, math skills

Key Responsibilities
  • Comply with all safety rules, company practices/procedures and participate in safe work practices, as outline by the company in order to facilitate a safe working environment
    Operate and maintain dross room as well as prepare and set dross pots to company standards using large forklift in order to recover recyclable, reusable aluminum.

  • Operate payloader with smasher attachment to company standards to level and position metal correctly on charge car for melting. Operate charge car to company standards to deliver scrap metal to the melter safely Load appropriate scrap types on the charge car according to the company provided charge packet using a pay loader in order to achieve in specification customer chemistries Transfer molten metal from melter furnace to holder furnace, inserting proper alloy where appropriate according to company standards in order to achieve in specification customer chemistries. Report deviations, discrepancies or non-conforming material based on departmental procedure in order for the Production team to make corrections or adjustments to processes appropriately

  • Ensure the smooth transfer of molten metal through the trough system into the casting table, according to company procedures. Monitor and adjust table and metal levels throughout the cast in order to achieve quality casted product. Ensure the smooth completion of the cast, including push back of molten metal and maintenance of troughing and Snif according to company procedures, in order to prep the table for the next cast. Remove casted product from the casting pit using an overhead crane, move to the laydown table and enter cast information into the HMI according to company procedures in order to move the product through the HOMO process. Inspect, maintain and repair as needed casting molds, tables and troughing according to company specifications in order to achieve quality casted product. Report deviations, discrepancies or non-conforming material based on departmental procedure in order for the Production team to make corrections or adjustments to processes appropriately

  • Completes Homogenizer pre-shift inspections. Read orders and identify alloy types and reviews homogenization times with supervisor and quality technicians. Operate homogenizer and forklift in a safe manner. Perform inspections on all logs and identify non-conforming product. Operate UT and identify non-conforming product, Load and unload the homogenizer
    Assist shipping with loading of trailers as needed Perform safety and operations equipment checks

  • Monitors and operates slug saw and robot with acquired specialized knowledge according to company specifications in order to ensure quality product is packaged correctly and placed in correct location in finished goods Monitors, operates and trouble shoots LOMA saw with acquired specialized knowledge according to company specifications in order to ensure quality product is packaged correctly and placed in correct location in finished goods Performs final inspection on all slug and billet product according to company specifications in order to ensure quality product to the external customer Performs regular preventative maintenance on both saws according to company specifications in order to ensure smooth continuous operation

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
  • Operate mobile loader and large forklift with high frequency. Frequent pushing of metal along the transfer trough. Visual monitoring of scrap conditions/type with high frequency. Frequent data entry of scrap amounts/types loaded. Frequent lifting and loading of alloy additions into holder/trough up to 25 lbs each time

  • Frequent exposure to molten metal temperatures reaching 1300 degrees F

  • Frequent exposure to extreme ambient temperatures of the season

  • Frequent exposure to possible upset conditions
