Job description

Emerald Technologies has an exciting opportunity for two SMT Machine Operator II (SMT Operator II) to join its Brea, CA team! The SMT Operator II plays a key role in our PCB assembly process, responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring advanced SMT production equipment to ensure high‑quality, reliable builds. This position requires hands‑on experience with SMT machinery, the ability to identify and resolve production issues, and a strong commitment to maintaining safety, quality, and throughput. In addition to running equipment, the SMT Operator II performs routine preventive maintenance, verifies program accuracy, and supports continuous improvement across the SMT line.

Responsibilities of the SMT Operator II:

  • Set up, operate, and shut down assigned equipment according to established procedures.
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance tasks and maintain accurate maintenance logs.
  • Ensure products meet quality specifications and production schedules.
  • Notify the Machine Group Leader of any quality issues or deviations.
  • Follow proper procedures for handling and disposing of leaded and non-leaded solder (especially for Jade and Wave machines).
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by adhering to safety protocols and using appropriate protective equipment.
  • Assist in conformal coating and other production tasks as required.

Qualifications of the SMT Operator II:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 2–5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of IPC-A-610 standards and component identification.
  • Ability to follow detailed written instructions and work with hand tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and manage time effectively.
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of responsibility and teamwork.
  • Willingness to operate various machines as directed by the supervisor.

Schedule & Budgeted Hours
Morning Shift (1 Shifts Total)
Shift Hours: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
Arrival Expectation: Employees should arrive by 5:45 AM to allow 15 minutes for equipment setup before production begins.
Paid Hours Per Day: 8.75 hours (includes one 30‑minute unpaid meal break).
Overtime: May be required based on production needs and will be compensated in accordance with California labor law.
Second Shift (2 Shifts Total)
Shift Hours: Monday–Friday, 2:30 PM – 11:00 PM
Arrival Expectation: Employees should arrive by 2:15 PM to allow 15 minutes for setup before production begins.
Paid Hours Per Day: 8.75 hours (includes one 30‑minute unpaid meal break).
Overtime: May be required based on production needs and will be compensated in accordance with California labor law.
Breaks
Meal Break (First Shift): One 30‑minute unpaid meal break, typically scheduled around 10:30 AM – 11:00 AM.
Meal Break (Second Shift): One 30‑minute unpaid meal break, typically scheduled between 6:30 PM – 7:00 PM.
Rest Breaks: Two paid 10‑minute rest breaks per shift, in compliance with California labor law.
Budgeted Hours
Budgeted Weekly Hours: 43.75 hours (5 shifts × 8.75 hours).
Overtime: May be required based on production needs and will be compensated in accordance with California labor law.
