Job description

We are seeking an experienced SMT Process Engineer to support and optimize electronics manufacturing operations within a growing and fast-paced production environment. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining circuit board assembly processes while driving continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing and engineering teams.

The ideal candidate is highly collaborative, detail-oriented, and passionate about process optimization, training, and data-driven decision making. This individual will play a key role in supporting production efficiency, improving manufacturing processes, and ensuring high-quality standards within SMT operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create, maintain, and support Surface Mount Technology (SMT) programming to ensure accuracy and efficiency of manufacturing equipment
  • Develop and maintain production process documentation including procedures, work instructions, and process mapping
  • Support project implementation through collaboration with cross-functional teams including Engineering and Production
  • Train and coach Engineering and Production personnel on SMT processes, procedures, and best practices
  • Identify, develop, and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing efficiency and product quality
  • Analyze manufacturing and process data to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for improvement
  • Ensure products are manufactured in accordance with customer specifications and quality standards
  • Assist with process validation, troubleshooting, and optimization of SMT equipment and production workflows
  • Support initiatives focused on error reduction, process consistency, and manufacturing reliability

Qualifications
  • Degree or Diploma in Electronics, Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience
  • Minimum 5 years of Process Engineering experience within an electronics manufacturing environment
  • Strong SMT programming experience with knowledge of SMT manufacturing processes and equipment including:
    • Screen Printing
    • Placement Machines
    • Reflow Ovens
    • AOI (Automated Optical Inspection)
  • Experience developing and implementing training programs for production and engineering teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present reports, process findings, and improvement recommendations
  • Ability to interpret and review customer documentation and data sets to ensure products meet required specifications
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Experience with industry software such as Siplace Pro and JMP is considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of IPC-610 standards
  • Ability and willingness to learn tooling, fixture, and jig design concepts focused on reducing human error (Poka-Yoke)
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within cross-functional teams
