Role description:
As a Transportation Engineer at Arcadis in Montgomery, AL, you will play a key role in supporting our traffic and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) group. You will be responsible for conducting traffic studies, analyzing safety and operational data, preparing engineering plans, and assisting with corridor planning for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAV). This position offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced project managers and senior engineers, enhancing your technical expertise and understanding of the transportation industry. You will contribute to multidisciplinary projects across the Southeast, help develop innovative transportation solutions, and participate in the implementation of smart infrastructure technologies.
Role accountabilities:
- Conduct safety and operational analysis for intersections and corridors.
- Utilize big data sources to assess safety and operational needs.
- Provide program support for large engineering projects across the Southeast.
- Perform CAD assignments, including creating engineering documents, figures, and incorporating markups.
- Develop traffic simulation models using platforms such as Synchro, VISSIM, and Sidra.
- Collaborate with senior engineers to develop and implement improved signal timing plans.
- Research engineering standards, traffic operations, simulation, and safety; assist with smart infrastructure and CAV technology implementation.
- Coordinate with other disciplines (survey, roadway design, environmental) to facilitate successful project delivery and expand engineering knowledge.
- Strong interest in traffic engineering/planning, intelligent transportation systems, transportation modeling, and traffic operations.
- Experience or familiarity with CAD, Synchro, VISSIM, and/or Sidra.
- Flexible approach to assignments; initiative and ability to take on new projects and challenges regularly.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required Qualifications:
- BS degree in civil or transportation engineering.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in transportation engineering.
- Must be based in Montgomery, AL or willing to relocate.
Preferred Qualifications:
- EIT Certification
- Experience using OpenRoads
- 3-4 years' experience
- Prior internship or work experience in engineering consulting or Department of Transportation (DOT) projects.

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $64,152 - $96,228. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
