About this Job: The overall function of this position is to assist the Project Engineer in the everyday activities of managing a District Construction Unit, such as directing and supervising highway and bridge construction, survey activities, contract administration, quality assurance, material management, and associated functions of a construction gang including functionally supervising employees in the Project Engineer's office engaged in construction work with DOTD

This position is located in District 61 Unit 206, Ascension Parish of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to Engineer 6, Project Engineer. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.

Job Duties and Other Information Job duties: Assist the Project Engineer in directing and supervising highway and bridge construction, survey activities, contract administration and associated functions of a construction unit. Manage District Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO).

Assist the Project Engineer in solving problems that arise in the field using engineering judgment and principles. Interprets construction plans to determine practicality, if they serve the purpose intended, constructability, and if they use sound engineering practices. Proficient in the use of software such as Proval for evaluating IRI to ensure conformance with project specifications; Headlight for preparing project diaries and for generating estimates, Excel for creating and maintaining electronic field book records, reviewing change order backup information and preparing change orders, and assessing time charges.

Participate in preconstruction conferences and progress meetings with engineers and contractors to discuss construction scheduling, method of construction and potential problems. Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering. Engineer 4 - Special Entrance Rate (SER) $36.90/hourly. Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus One year of licensed engineering experience OR Five years of professional engineering experience

Engineer 5 - Special Entrance Rate (SER) $39.48/hourly. Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus Two years of licensed engineering experience OR Six years of professional engineering experience. Career Progression: Depending on the selected candidate's qualifications, this position may be filled as an Engineer Intern 1, or 2, or Engineer 3, 4, or 5
