Job description

More than 135 years ago, we started with core values that never go out of style: listen, learn and help businesses and individuals reach their goals. These core values shape our culture, and we were recently Great Place to Work Certified because of our outstanding workplace culture and employee experience. As well, our financial strength and stability are key reasons Forbes named us one of the Best 100 Banks in America for the ninth consecutive year.

With more than $16 billion in assets and 135 branch locations throughout Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and California, we understand our role in the economy and take that responsibility seriously. In addition to offering a source of capital to personal banking clients and businesses of all sizes, we place a high importance on employee volunteerism and donate millions of dollars each year to community organizations.

As a Small Business Consultant, you play a vital role in creating exceptional client experiences at the branch level while helping clients reach their financial goals. This role combines consultative sales, personalized service, and community engagement to build lasting relationships and drive meaningful impact for both clients and the bank.

You’ll be a trusted advisor, educator, and advocate for clients while contributing to a collaborative, high‑performing branch environment.

In this role you’ll
  • Provide exceptional client experiences through consultative sales and service interactions at branch locations.
  • Build awareness and understanding of bank products and services, including digital banking capabilities.
  • Grow and maintain a consumer and business lending pipeline by deepening client and center‑of‑influence relationships.
  • Conduct outbound calls, networking activities, and participate in banking presentations to generate referrals and new business.
  • Apply need‑based sales techniques to expand, retain, and strengthen client relationships.
  • Identify and facilitate referrals to internal partners such as Commercial Lending, Treasury Management, Mortgage Lending, and Investment Services.
  • Proactively communicate with current and prospective clients to educate, resolve issues, and build long‑term loyalty.
  • Conduct scheduled and walk‑in client appointments to identify needs and recommend solutions.
  • Open new accounts and perform maintenance on existing accounts in compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Support branch lending activities by educating clients, completing loan applications, and ensuring accurate documentation and booking.
  • Process routine financial transactions accurately, including deposits, withdrawals, check cashing, and loan payments, and balance cash drawers with precision.
  • Support branch operations and contribute to the training, mentoring, and coaching of team members.
What we’re looking for
  • You have a High School Diploma or GED (Required).
  • You bring 4 or more years of experience as a banker, client relationship consultant, or in a related sales role with established performance goals (Required).
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience can be considered in lieu of a degree.
What helps you shine
  • You have advanced knowledge of retail banking products, systems, and procedures.
  • You’re comfortable working with complex account types such as Trusts, Powers of Attorney, Guardianships, and Court‑Blocked accounts.
  • You can analyze credit data and financial information to recommend thoughtful, client‑focused solutions.
  • You bring strong sales, cross‑selling, networking, and referral management skills.
  • You build trust easily through excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication.
  • You thrive in a fast‑paced environment, balancing multiple priorities with flexibility and accuracy.
  • You’re confident using Microsoft Outlook, Word, and related business and communication tools.
