Job description

Jefferson Parish Civil Service is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Purpose of Announcement EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT ELIGIBLE LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF DRAINAGE. This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in various Departments as they occur.

Kind of Work The purpose of this position is to safely and efficiently operate Large Mowers (such as Multi-Reel Gang, Slope Mower, Triple Flail, or similar), and to perform minor maintenance and servicing of the assigned equipment in accordance to existing safety programs, work standards, and procedures. Besides operating Large Mowers (such as Multi-Reel Gang, Slope Mower, Triple Flail, or similar), the operator will be required to inspect and maintain the equipment's tire inflation; oil levels; leaks (oil, fuel, water, etc.); coolant in radiator; lights and signal devices; clear and clean windows, lamp lenses, mirrors; and functioning windshield wipers. May also be required to operate all equipment assigned to lower level Equipment Operators, as well as all equipment assigned to the level of Equipment Operator III, as assigned by the department

Operator may perform laboring work with or without hand tools when not operating equipment. Depending on the assigned vehicles, Equipment Operator III's may be required to possess a valid Louisiana Standard (Class E), Chauffeur's (Class D), or Commercial (Classes A, B, C) Driver's License in order to perform the tasks associated with the position. Performs related work as required.

This position is subject to standby and call outs. This position is also an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or his designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. NOTE - The current vacancy requires driving of a Parish vehicle necessitating a Class D license, thus possession of a valid Class D Driver's License and acceptable driving record will be given preference.

Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination Applicants must meet one (1) of the following: Verifiable, satisfactory experience operating Large Mowers (such as Multi-Reel Gang, Slope Mower, Triple Flail, or similar). Completion of approved training course in operating Large Mowers (such as Multi-Reel Gang, Slope Mower, Triple Flail, or similar). Current Civil Service employees with Jefferson Parish MUST receive signed verification from an appointing authority of satisfactory, on-the-job training to operate Large Mowers (such as Multi-Reel Gang, Slope Mower, Triple Flail, or similar).

Copies of licenses and certificates awarded for completion of training should be submitted with application.
