Job description

Overview
Writopia Lab, an award-winning 501(C)(3) nonprofit based in New York City runs the country's best creative writing workshops for kids and teens. We are looking for creative, passionate, and hard-working counselors to assist at WriCampia, our 12-day sleepaway camp in late August 2026. WriCampia is a creative writing and arts-oriented sleepaway camp for kids ages 10 to 18. Our young campers produce a range of works including stories, poems, plays, graphic novels, songs, and more, and share their work through showcases at the end of camp.
Location
WriCampia 2026 will be held at Camp Danbee in Berkshire County in Western Massachusetts. Transportation between New York City or Washington, DC and camp will be provided by Writopia Lab.
Dates
Sunday, August 9th through Friday August 21st. There will be up to an additional 12 hours of training held via Zoom prior to arriving at camp.
Pay
Stipend of $700 plus room, board, and meals; and up to 12 hours of training at $18.40 per hour.
What Does a Counselor Do?
  • Counselors support and lead elective activities, which range from filmmaking, zine making, and spoken word, to roleplaying games, playwriting, novel writing, and more!
  • WriCampia counselors are teaching assistants who serve as role models to our young writers while cultivating their confidence in-and love for-writing.
  • While in our writing workshops, counselors provide typing, editorial, and moral support to our writers.
  • Counselors sleep in a bunk and eat meals with their campers and provide support and guidance throughout camp.

  • People who are passionate about creative writing and working with young writers.
  • People who are hungry to work in a hands-on, collaborative, and fun environment.
  • People who are excited by the idea of joining a community of writers and fostering literacy and joy in children and teens through creative writing!

Who Will You Work With?
You will be working on a team of 60 counselors, and you will be supported by our experienced Division Heads and Camp Directors.
