What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Sleep Technologist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sleep Technologist, you need a solid understanding of sleep disorders, physiology, and polysomnography, often supported by an accredited sleep technology program and certification such as RPSGT. Familiarity with diagnostic equipment, sleep study software, and CPAP/BiPAP devices is essential. Attention to detail, effective communication, and compassion help you provide excellent patient care and accurately interpret data. These skills ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders, ultimately improving patient outcomes and safety.

What are some common challenges sleep technologists face during overnight studies, and how can they effectively manage them?

Sleep technologists often encounter challenges such as patient discomfort, unexpected equipment malfunctions, or difficulty in obtaining high-quality data during overnight studies. To manage these issues effectively, technologists are trained to troubleshoot equipment promptly, communicate clearly with patients to ease their concerns, and remain alert throughout the night to monitor signals and address any artifacts. Building strong technical skills and maintaining a calm, patient-centered approach can help ensure both accurate study results and a positive patient experience.

What is sleep technology?

Sleep technology refers to the use of specialized devices, equipment, and software to monitor, assess, and improve sleep quality. This field includes tools such as wearable sleep trackers, smart mattresses, and clinical devices used in sleep studies to diagnose disorders like sleep apnea. Sleep technologists, or polysomnographic technologists, are professionals trained to operate this equipment and analyze sleep data. The goal of sleep technology is to help individuals understand their sleep patterns and address issues that may affect their overall health.

Will sleep techs be replaced by AI?

Sleep technologists perform diagnostic sleep studies and analyze data to diagnose sleep disorders. While AI can assist in data analysis and improve efficiency, it is unlikely to fully replace sleep techs, as their role also involves patient interaction, equipment setup, and clinical judgment that require human expertise. Certification and hands-on skills remain essential in this field.

Job description

Brightree is a wholly owned subsidiary of ResMed (NYSE: RMD, ASX: RMD).

When you work at Brightree, it's more than just a job. You'll be part of a team that's driving innovation and leading the way in cloud-based patient management software.

The technology allows us to provide the tools for better outcomes but at our heart, we're really about people. We strive to positively impact our customers' businesses and the lives of patients every single day.

Brightree, a leader in healthcare software, is seeking a dynamic Sales Development Representative (SDR) to drive outbound lead generation efforts. This role is laser-focused on identifying, engaging, and qualifying Home Medical Equipment (HME) providers across the US who operate and maintain Sleep Resupply programs. As part of the sales team, you will be the engine that fuels pipeline growth for Brightree's billing and business management solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Outbound Prospecting: Execute high-volume outbound calling and emailing campaigns to HME providers with Sleep Resupply programs, generating interest and uncovering new opportunities.

  • Lead Qualification: Use research, professional communication, and interviewing tactics to qualify prospects, ensuring they meet criteria for Sleep Resupply and are sales-ready for software demonstrations.

  • Pipeline Management: Create, manage, nurture, and report on all lead management activities, tracking volume, velocity, and value metrics to deliver consistent, high-quality leads to the sales team.

  • Collaboration: Partner closely with Marketing and Sales to drive acceptance of leads and provide feedback on campaign effectiveness, especially those targeting Sleep Resupply segments.

  • Follow-Up & Nurturing: Proactively follow up and nurture contacts at various stages of interest, with a focus on converting Sleep Resupply prospects into qualified opportunities.

  • Target Identification: Identify, prioritize, and contact individual HME targets, leveraging data and market insights to focus on Sleep Resupply providers.

  • CRM Documentation: Document all activities and conversations in Salesforce CRM, ensuring accurate tracking of Sleep Resupply-related outreach and results.

  • Performance Metrics: Achieve and exceed metric targets focused on driving adoption and revenue from Sleep Resupply HME prospects.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven success in a phone sales environment, with the ability to build rapport, think quickly, and be assertive and persuasive in outbound communications.

  • Confident, persuasive, and clear communicator (written and verbal), able to engage all levels of an organization, from frontline staff to executive leadership.

  • Skilled at navigating corporate structures to identify decision-makers and understand the buying process for Sleep Resupply solutions.

  • Self-motivated, reliable, and high-energy, with excellent time management and a strong process orientation.

  • Experience with appointment scheduling at high velocity, especially for Sleep Resupply demos.

  • Preferred: Cloud/SaaS sales experience, healthcare technology background, and proficiency with tools like Salesforce, Gong Engage, Co-Pilot, and Office365.

We are shaping the future at ResMed, and we recognize the need to build on and broaden our existing skills and continue to attract and retain the world's best talent. We work hard to offer holistic benefits packages, provide flexible work arrangements, cultivate a workforce culture that allows employees to grow personally and professionally, and deliver competitive salaries to our team members. Employees scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week are eligible for benefits. This position qualifies for the following benefits package: comprehensive medical, vision, dental, and life, AD&D, short-term and long-term disability insurance, sleep care management, Health Savings Account (HSA), Flexible Spending Account (FSA), commuter benefits, 401(k), Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and tuition assistance. Employees accrue fifteen days Paid Time Off (PTO) in their first year of employment, receive 11 paid holidays plus 3 floating days and are eligible for 14 weeks of primary caregiver or two weeks of secondary caregiver leave when welcoming new family members.

Individual pay decisions are based on a variety of factors, such as the candidate's geographic work location, relevant qualifications, work experience, and skills.

This role is eligible for a Sales Incentive Plan with a target of $40,000 annually.

At ResMed, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current base range for this position is:

$ 25.62 - $38.44 USD Hourly

For remote positions located outside of the US, pay will be determined based the candidate's geographic work location, relevant qualifications, work experience, and skills.
