Job description

Technology Specialist
Start Date August 24, 2026 Position Type Full-time Positions Available 1
Map Academy is actively seeking a Technology Specialist to join our incredible team. This full-time position focuses on keeping the technology our students and staff depend on working and available, including the student Chromebook fleet, staff laptops, classroom displays, and printing, and on resolving the everyday issues that matter a great deal to the people who encounter them. Ideal candidate has hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing devices and enjoys being the person who gets things working again. School-based experience is ideal, but candidates with relevant experience in similar settings are encouraged to apply. First and foremost, we're looking for someone with strong communication and organizational skills, the patience to help colleagues with a wide range of comfort with technology, and the ability to build relationships, work independently, and as part of a collaborative team. Until now, this work has been carried by our co-directors and other senior leaders, in addition to their own roles. We are hiring for it because it matters too much to keep fitting into the margins of someone else's day. Our first priority is the day-to-day support described above, and that is what this role is. We are also a school with real opportunity in educational technology, and if you bring genuine instructional technology experience alongside the hands-on skills, we want to hear from you. We would scope the role and the salary accordingly. Fantastic opportunity to join our mission-driven, growing team. Competitive salary based on experience & extensive benefits package. Regular school day schedule with additional flexible hours depending on building needs, which may include some early mornings, evenings and school breaks. Candidates must have a valid driver's license and comply with a CORI and fingerprint-supported background check. Candidates with diverse lived experiences and identities are particularly encouraged to apply.
Map Academy encourages applicants from all cultures, races, colors, religions, sexes, national origins, ages, disability statuses, sexual orientations and gender identities. We particularly welcome applications from African American and Latinx persons. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment.
Job Requirements
Student Device Management
  • Prepare, configure, and assign Chromebooks for student use
  • Troubleshoot student devices that will not power on, will not charge, or will not hold a wifi connection
  • Maintain and repair Chromebook charging stations and carts
  • Collect, inventory, service, and redistribute the student device fleet at the start and end of each school year
  • Repair or coordinate repair of cracked screens and other damaged devices
  • Support student login and account access issues; escalate what cannot be resolved directly
  • Keep an accurate record of which device is assigned to which student

Staff Device Support - Hardware and First-Line Troubleshooting
  • Set up laptops for new staff, including printer connections and standard applications
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware issues such as cracked screens, failing chargers, damaged ports, and battery problems
  • Manage the device repair pipeline, including tracking devices sent out for service
  • Run and troubleshoot software updates across the applications staff use daily (macOS, Zoom, Slack, and our other core systems), using administrator credentials where authorized
  • Resolve application launch and login problems that keep staff from getting into the tools they need
  • Maintain a small loaner pool so staff are not without a working device
  • Exercise care and discretion when working on staff and student devices, which may contain sensitive information

Printing and Copying
  • Install and connect printers for staff across all studios
  • Replace toner and maintain adequate toner supply
  • Clear paper jams and resolve printers that are not responding
  • Coordinate service calls with the copier vendor

Classroom and Building AV
  • Troubleshoot classroom televisions that will not power on, are stuck, or are not displaying
  • Support screen mirroring, casting, and HDMI connections between laptops and classroom displays
  • Maintain the digital signage displays in the Wayfinding Center and other common spaces
  • Track and replace remotes, cables, and adapters
  • Set up and support AV for graduation, presentations, and other events
  • Mount, move, and remove televisions and displays, coordinating with the Facilities Management Specialist

Inventory, Accounts, and Systems
  • Maintain an organized inventory of devices, including asset tags, serial numbers, and warranty status
  • Communicate with leadership regarding equipment needs, ordering, and replacement cycles
  • Perform basic Google Workspace account tasks under the direction of the technology lead
  • Manage electronic waste, including proper disposal of retired devices and equipment

Request Management and Communication
  • Monitor the staff technology request form and respond to incoming requests
  • Log work completed and keep the request record current
  • Communicate clearly with staff about what is being done and when to expect it
  • Prioritize across competing requests, recognizing that a device that isn't working stops a student's day

Vendor and Consultant Coordination
  • Copier and printer service vendors
  • Device repair and warranty vendors
  • External technology consultant

Instructional Technology Support (Scaled to the successful candidate)
  • Support staff in using classroom technology well, not only in getting it working
  • Provide short, practical how-to support to individuals and small groups
  • Build and maintain simple written guidance for the tasks staff ask about most often
  • Contribute to piloting and evaluating educational technology tools alongside academic leadership

Our immediate need is the support work described above, and that is where this role will focus. We are also a school, and there is real opportunity here. For a candidate who brings genuine instructional technology experience, we would scope this part of the role - and the salary - to make use of it.
The scope of administrative access is matched to the experience of the successful candidate. This role is supervised closely by the leadership team, with room to take on more over time.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Commitment to Map Academy's mission and to being an important part of a collaborative team
  • Strong work ethic, reliable, prompt, and have strong organizational and communication skills
  • Comfort working across both Mac and Chrome OS environments
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing computers, Chromebooks, or similar devices
  • Proficient with Google Workspace and Google Admin Console
  • Ability to explain technical steps clearly and patiently to colleagues with a wide range of comfort with technology
  • Interest or experience in educational technology is a plus; for a candidate bringing genuine instructional technology experience, this is an area we would scope up
  • Sound judgment and discretion; this role is trusted with administrator credentials for staff and student devices
  • Understands and respects the confidentiality of student information.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and supplies (up to 50 lbs)
  • Ability to build relationships and work as part of a team, and also to work independently
  • Ability to communicate and organize technical support from outside contractors
  • Must maintain professional appearance and communication and represent Map Academy in a professional manner at all times
  • Active MA Driver's License and clean driving record
  • Must pass CORI and fingerprinting
  • Bachelor's Degree required; coursework, certification, and training in information and/or instructional technology preferred

Top salary and extensive benefits package, including Blue Cross Blue Shield medical, dental & vision insurance; tuition reimbursement; student loan repayment assistance; relocation allowance; wellness benefit; healthcare & dependent care FSA; 403b & professional development opportunities. Salary negotiable based on experience & qualifications. Endless opportunities for growth & advancement in a supportive, collaborative (and happy!) environment.
