Job description

Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and energetic Bike Shop Manager to lead our retail bicycle store to new heights! In this pivotal role, you will oversee daily operations in the sales and service departments, and ensure that customer experience meets our core values: We build the cycling community by treating everyone who comes in the door with respect, working to get more people on bicycles, and creating an inclusive, welcoming environment. If you’re passionate about bikes and people, this is a great opportunity for you!

Your leadership will drive sales growth, maintain inventory excellence, and foster a welcoming environment for cycling enthusiasts of all levels. Retail management is all about creating consistency and structure by using processes within the sometimes fast-paced world of customer service.

Duties

  • Lead and motivate the retail sales team to achieve sales targets and deliver outstanding customer service
  • Manage daily store operations, including opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and POS (Point of Sale) system management
  • Oversee inventory control, purchasing, stock replenishment, and merchandising to ensure product availability and visual appeal
  • Conduct employee orientation, training & development sessions, and performance evaluations to foster a high-performing team. Training happens in-store, through virtual resources, and with yearly travel opportunities coordinated with the owner and other location managers.
  • Handle customer inquiries, resolve complaints promptly, and provide expert advice on bike products and accessories
  • Implement pricing strategies, promotional campaigns, and sales initiatives to maximize revenue
  • Coordinate with suppliers for purchasing needs while negotiating favorable terms and maintaining strong vendor relationships
  • Light mechanical repairs: fixing flat tires, minor adjustments, etc. Manager is not expected to be a mechanic, but simple repairs and checks of tuneups will be expected.

Requirements

  • Proven management experience in retail industry sales teams, preferably within sporting goods or specialty retail environments
  • Strong leadership skills with experience supervising staff, managing shifts, and overseeing store operations
  • Excellent communication skills; bilingual or multilingual abilities are a plus for engaging diverse customers
  • Demonstrated expertise in inventory management, bookkeeping, payroll processing, and POS systems
  • Knowledge of retail math including budgeting, pricing strategies, and sales analysis
  • Ability to handle cash transactions accurately while maintaining excellent customer service standards
  • Experience with recruiting, interviewing potential employees, and employee orientation programs
  • Familiarity and experience with the bike industry and products is highly preferred
