Job description

Skate Guard – P/T Hourly Non-Exempt

Reports To: Hockey Coordinator

Position Summary: The Skate Guard plays a key role in maintaining a safe, structured, and positive on-ice environment for all participants. This position emphasizes public safety, strong awareness, and proactive supervision during open skate sessions. The role is ideal for individuals with a hockey/skating background who are dependable, attentive, and enjoy being part of a team-oriented rink environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor all on-ice activity to ensure a safe environment for players and skaters
  • Enforce rink rules and always promote safe behavior
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to incidents, injuries, or unsafe situations
  • Maintain awareness of all participants and anticipate potential safety concerns
  • Help set up and break down equipment (dividers, cones, music, etc.)
  • Contribute to special events, private rentals when needed
  • Assist with building operations during events, including setup, organization, and general support
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • CPR certified
  • Strong skating ability (hockey skating preferred)
  • Ability to stay alert, make quick decisions, and handle situations calmly
  • Strong communication skills
  • Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends

Preferred:

  • Prior experience as a skate guard, coach, or hockey player
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Experience assisting with events, parties, or group activities

Schedule: Part-time; evenings and weekends based on program needs

Hourly rate: $18.00
