Job description
The Learn to Skate Instructor is responsible for teaching basic skating skills to participants of all ages and skill levels in a group lesson setting. This role is essential to creating a positive first experience on the ice, with a focus on safety, skill development, and fun. The instructor must be energetic, patient, and able to communicate clearly with children and parents.
Responsibilities
On-Ice Instruction
- Teach structured group lessons following the LTS USA curriculum.
- Lead warm-ups, skill progressions, and games tailored to each level.
- Monitor skater safety and encourage good technique and sportsmanship.
- Provide individual feedback and track skill development for evaluations.
Classroom & Program Support
- Assist with registration, check-in, and class assignments before sessions.
- Communicate clearly with parents and participants about progress, levels, and next steps.
- Help with class planning, level testing, and special events (e.g., ice shows or exhibitions).
- Assist with rink setup and cleanup before/after classes.
- Strong skating skills: prior figure skating or hockey background preferred.
- Experience working with children in a teaching, coaching, or mentoring role.
- Friendly, energetic, and positive attitude.
- Reliable and punctual with strong communication skills.
- Ability to work weekends and evenings as required.
- Prior experience as a skating instructor or assistant.
