Description
Responsibilities: The Shelling Technician plays a crucial role in the efficient operation of our peanut shelling plant. As a member of the top deck team, you will be responsible for running and maintaining the equipment necessary for shelling peanuts. Your primary focus will be on the following machines:
Shellers Gravities and Cleaners their responsibilities are outlined below.
Key Duties:
  1. Start up and shut down the shelling equipment as needed.
  2. Monitor the flow of peanuts through the sheller, gravity separator, and cleaner.
  3. Collaborate with other team members to maintain a steady production pace.
  4. Report any malfunctions or safety concerns promptly to the supervisor.
  5. Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  6. Follow safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  7. In addition to the existing responsibilities, the Shelling Technician will also be responsible for changing the sizing screens in the equipment. This crucial duty ensures that the peanuts are sorted and sized according to customer specifications. By adjusting the screens, you'll help maintain consistent quality and meet the specific requirements of our valued customers.
  8. Sheller: Operate the peanut sheller, ensuring it runs smoothly and efficiently. Monitor the shelling process, adjust settings as needed, and troubleshoot any issues that arise.

Sheller Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Performs daily checks on all stages of the shellers. Ensuring that efficiency is being met.
  • Changes out Sheller bars and baskets as needed.
  • Communicates with coworkers and leadership both verbally and in writing.
  • Performs sanitation and maintenance on equipment and surrounding areas.
  • Required to follow all Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Complies with all SOPs including LOTO.
  • Complies and focuses on food safety responsibilities.
  • Completes all paperwork for the department and turns it into supervisor.
  • Assists with any other duties as assigned by Production Supervisor.
  • Assists any of the shelling plant top deck operators with daily tasks.
  1. Gravity Separator: Manage the gravity separator, which separates peanuts based on weight and density. Ensure proper calibration and adjust settings to achieve optimal separation results.

Gravity Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Manages the Marc 500 gravity machines to ensure that maximum efficiency, product separation and through put is consistently maintained daily.
  • Manages the gravities to ensure that the accepted peanuts are free from any foreign material.
  • Manages the overhead gravity bins to allow for product flow forward.
  • Identify any upset conditions that impact product quality and value during the scheduled shift; work with supervisor and team to identify, collect, monitor, and analyze these conditions.
  • Monitor continuous flow of peanuts through the entire process.
  • Follows all company policy and procedures such as GMPs and SOPs.
  • Makes necessary adjustments to equipment to ensure our customer specifications are met.
  • Keeps area clean and free of any debris following all sanitation requirements.
  • The successful candidate must have critical thinking skills with the ability to figure out breakdowns, quality issues, and out of spec. grades.
  • Candidate must be able to get to root cause of any upset conditions that may occur during their scheduled shift.
  • Must be able to maintain accurate records, pay attention to detail, possess good attendance, and have a positive attitude.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • The candidate should always focus on food safety and employee safety.
  • Assist and perform any other duties assigned by management.

Cleaner Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  1. Cleaner: Oversee the peanut cleaner, which removes debris, dust, and foreign particles from the shelled peanuts. Regularly inspect and clean the cleaner to maintain its effectiveness.
  • Monitors cleaners for proper operations adjusting when necessary.
  • Adjust machines for proper foreign material removal.
  • Ensures constant flow of product from the farmer stock warehouse, through the cleaners and to the shellers.
  • Operator must scrape sizing screens to ensure proper sizing throughout the cleaning process.
  • Operator must blow out screens daily to allow for adequate airflow.
  • Ensure cleaners are properly maintained and cleaned per OEM instructions to minimize downtime.
  • Performs sanitation in work area and maintains a clean area.
  • Performs daily checks to ensure each machine is efficient and operating correctly (meats in trash check and magnet check)
  • Required to follow all Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Assist with any other duties as assigned by Shift Supervisor.

Optical Sorter Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Ensure Satake color sorters are operating correctly, capable of testing the machinery and product to ensure the equipment is working properly and the product meets expectations

  • Ensure constant flow of product
  • Perform sanitation and maintenance on equipment and surrounding areas
  • Monitor Satakes for proper operation and make necessary adjustments
  • Test product to ensure quality parameters are met
  • Ensure testing equipment is calibrated and working correctly
  • Communicates both verbal and in writing.
  • Performs sanitation and maintenance on equipment and surrounding areas.
  • Required to follow all Good Manufacturing Practices and assist with any other duties as assigned by management.
  • Complies with LOTO SOPs.
  • Performs operator level maintenance SOPs.
  • Properly maintains and cleans per OEM requirements to minimize downtime.
  • Complies with food safety responsibilities and focuses on them.
  • Fulfills all Food Safety responsibilities and abides by all Health Safety rules.
  • Follows S.O.P 's.
  • Completes all paperwork for the department and turns it into supervisor.
  • Follows all Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Assists with any other duties as assigned by Production Supervisor.
  • Monitors and maintains the Re-mill station.
  • Assists and fills in for any of the shelling plant top deck operators.
  • Perform sanitation and maintenance on equipment and surrounding areas.

Qualifications:
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not involve supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and a minimum of one year experience operating equipment in a manufacturing environment, or one-year experience running complex farm equipment, one year of experience preferred and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Mechanical aptitude and experience operating industrial machinery. Ability to troubleshoot and address minor equipment issues. Must be mechanically inclined; having the capability to change decks, screens and sizing reels not limited to any other function needed within the shelling process. Attention to detail and commitment to quality control.
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to walk and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to stand; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Physical stamina to stand, lift, and move equipment parts. Work Environment
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The shelling facility is not a climate-controlled environment.
