Within the Chief Security Office, our Security Data & AI Lab is building intelligent, AI-driven security capabilities that help keep our customers and colleagues safe!

As a Site Reliability Engineer, you'll join a collaborative team focused on the resilient operation of cloud-hosted applications and services. You'll work alongside experienced engineers, developing your technical expertise while helping improve the reliability, scalability and performance of critical platforms and products!

As a Site Reliability Engineer, you'll:

  • Support the reliable functioning of applications and services hosted in the cloud, helping to identify, fix and resolve issues before they impact customers.

  • Contribute to DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering initiatives that improve service resilience, availability and operational efficiency.

  • Work closely with engineering teams to deploy, maintain and enhance cloud-based solutions, data pipelines and platform capabilities.

  • Help automate operational processes, reducing manual effort and improving consistency through engineering standard process.

  • Support incident management, root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities, helping to strengthen service reliability over time.

  • Contribute to monitoring, observability and service performance capabilities, using operational insights to improve customer outcomes.

What you'll need
We're looking for engineers who are curious, collaborative and motivated to build their expertise in cloud engineering, automation and service reliability.

  • Knowledge of cloud platforms, particularly Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or equivalent experience gained through projects, training or certification.

  • Experience using scripting or programming languages such as Python, PowerShell or Bash to automate processes and solve technical problems.

  • Understanding of DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering practices, including continuous improvement, operational excellence and collaborative delivery. The SBO Skills Library identifies DevOps and SRE & Service Engineering as core engineering skill areas.

  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code concepts and tools such as Terraform, alongside source control and software development practices.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyse issues systematically and contribute to effective solutions. Critical Thinking and Problem Solving are recognised enterprise skills within the SBO Skills Library.

  • A collaborative approach, with the ability to build effective working relationships and contribute positively within a team environment. Collaboration is identified as a key personal skill within the SBO Skills Library.

And any experience of this would be really useful

  • Experience supporting production services, operational platforms or live environments.

  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability platforms such as Dynatrace.

  • Experience with Google SecOps.

  • Experience working with GitHub, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native engineering practices.

  • Experience using Jira and Confluence and working within Agile delivery teams.

  • GCP certifications or evidence of hands-on learning and continuous professional development.

  • Experience working in Site Reliability Engineering, Platform Engineering, DevOps, Software Engineering or Technical Operations environments.

  • Interest / passion in AI and the application of agentic solutions would be advantageous. This lab is at the forefront of agentic use cases and AI security, and whilst professional experience may be limited, personal interest & development is great to have.
