Job description

Field Machinist 
 
We are seeking an experienced Field Machinist to perform precision machining and repair work on site using mobile machining tooling. This role supports maintenance, turnaround, outage, and emergency repair activities in industrial environments where equipment must be repaired in place with minimal downtime.
 
Responsibilities
• Set up and operate portable machining equipment in the field, including line boring, flange facing, milling, drilling, tapping, and shaft machining systems
• Perform precision measurements and alignments using micrometers, dial indicators, laser alignment tools, levels, and other inspection equipment
• Machine components on site to exact tolerances while working in refineries, power plants, manufacturing facilities, and other industrial locations
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, specifications, and work instructions
• Inspect damaged or worn equipment and determine the appropriate repair approach
• Fabricate, repair, and modify mechanical components as needed to restore equipment to service
• Work closely with welders, millwrights, mechanics, and project supervisors to complete field repairs safely and efficiently
• Maintain accurate work records, dimensional reports, and inspection documentation
• Follow all site-specific safety requirements, permitting procedures, and quality standards
• Travel to customer sites and work extended shifts, including nights, weekends, and emergency callouts as needed
 
Qualifications
• Proven experience as a machinist with field machining or on-site machining experience
• Hands-on experience using mobile machining tooling and portable machine shop equipment
• Strong knowledge of machining principles, tolerances, materials, and precision measurement
• Ability to set up and operate field machining equipment independently
• Experience machining pumps, turbines, compressors, motors, flanges, housings, shafts, or similar industrial components preferred
• Ability to read technical drawings and work from verbal or written instructions
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Commitment to safety, quality, and customer service
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites
 
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver tools and equipment
• Comfortable working in industrial environments, confined spaces, elevated areas, and varying weather conditions
• Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and work for extended periods
 
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in refinery, petrochemical, power generation, mining, pulp and paper, or heavy industrial settings
• Experience with laser alignment, alignment corrections, and critical equipment repairs
• Vocational training, apprenticeship, or technical certification in machining
