Singleton information

What is a singleton in programming?

A Singleton is a design pattern used in software development to ensure that a class has only one instance throughout the application's lifecycle. This pattern provides a global point of access to that instance, which can be useful for managing shared resources like configuration settings or database connections. Singletons are commonly used in object-oriented programming languages and help to prevent the creation of multiple objects that could lead to inconsistent behavior. However, they should be used carefully, as improper use can lead to issues with testing and increased coupling.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a singleton, and why are they important?

I'm sorry, but 'Singleton' is not a recognized real-world professional occupation, so I cannot provide an answer for this job title.

What are some common challenges faced by singleton pattern developers in large-scale software projects?

In large-scale software projects, developers implementing the Singleton pattern often encounter challenges such as managing global state, ensuring thread safety, and avoiding tight coupling between components. While Singleton can provide controlled access to shared resources, improper use may lead to issues with unit testing and hinder code modularity. It’s important for developers to assess whether a Singleton is truly necessary and to follow best practices for thread-safe implementation, especially in multi-threaded environments.

What is the difference between Singleton vs Software Developer?

AspectSingletonSoftware Developer
Required CredentialsTypically no specific credentials, but knowledge of design patternsBachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
Work EnvironmentUsed in software architecture, often within development teamsDevelops, tests, and maintains software applications
Industry UsageCommon in software design patterns and architectureWidespread across all software development sectors
Search & Comparison IntentUnderstanding design patterns and implementationCareer options, roles, and skills in software development

The Singleton is a design pattern ensuring a class has only one instance, mainly used in software architecture. A Software Developer, on the other hand, is a professional who creates and maintains software applications. While a Software Developer may implement Singleton patterns, their roles are broader, involving coding, testing, and project management. Understanding the difference helps clarify technical design choices versus professional roles in the software industry.

Job description

Every great project starts with a great estimate.
Before the first shovel hits the ground, before a project team is assembled and before construction begins, someone has already laid the foundation for success.
That's where you come in.
At Singleton Construction, our Estimators do far more than produce numbers. They help shape projects from the very beginning, identify opportunities, solve challenges and play a vital role in winning work for some of America's most recognised brands.
If you enjoy analysing projects, collaborating with great people and turning plans into winning proposals, we'd love to hear from you.
Why Singleton?
Singleton Construction delivers commercial construction projects across the central and southern United States for some of America's most recognised brands.
Our reputation has been built on building strong client relationships, delivering quality projects and doing exactly what we say we'll do.
As an Estimator, you'll play a key role in that success.
You'll work alongside our Preconstruction, Operations and Project Management teams, helping shape projects before they reach site and ensuring every estimate is accurate, competitive and commercially sound.
We believe great ideas can come from anyone, so you'll have the opportunity to contribute, challenge assumptions and help influence how we win work.
You'll join a collaborative team that values accuracy, professionalism and continuous improvement-where your expertise is trusted and your contribution genuinely matters.
What you'll be doing
As an Estimator, you'll be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for commercial construction projects from initial enquiry through to handover.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documents.
  • Preparing detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates.
  • Requesting and evaluating subcontractor and supplier quotations.
  • Identifying project risks, value engineering opportunities and cost-saving solutions.
  • Working closely with Operations and Project Management teams throughout the estimating process.
  • Preparing bid summaries and supporting tender submissions.
  • Maintaining accurate estimating records and cost databases.
  • Supporting successful project handovers following award.

You'll play an important role in helping Singleton secure exciting projects while ensuring they're set up for success from day one.
Requirements
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone who combines strong commercial awareness with excellent attention to detail.
You'll likely have:
  • Experience estimating commercial construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods and materials.
  • Experience reviewing drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • The ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.
  • A proactive and solutions-focused approach.

Experience estimating retail, commercial remodel or multi-site construction projects is highly desirable.
What success looks like
You'll produce accurate, competitive estimates that help Singleton win profitable work.
You'll build trusted relationships with subcontractors, suppliers and colleagues, identify opportunities to improve project outcomes and play a key role in setting every project up for success.
Your work will directly contribute to the continued growth of the business.
Benefits
Why you'll love working here
  • Help shape exciting commercial construction projects before they begin.
  • Work alongside experienced Operations and Project Management teams.
  • Join a collaborative company where your expertise is valued.
  • Opportunities to contribute ideas and influence how projects are delivered.
  • Career development within a growing business.
  • Competitive salary and benefits.
