Job description

Location and Shift Details

Location: 79 Jefferson St, HH Bliss Wing (10064)

Shift: 40 hours per week, consisting of 5-8 hour shifts. Primarily day shifts (7 AM - 3 PM) with occasional rotations to evening and night shifts. Weekend shifts and/or calls every third weekend, along with a weekday overnight call rotation. Holiday shifts are also part of the schedule.

Job Responsibilities

The Surgical Technologist plays a vital role in providing support before, during, and after surgical procedures. Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the availability and proper arrangement of surgical instruments and supplies in the operating room.
  • Assisting the surgeon during procedures in accordance with professional and legal standards.
  • Cleaning the operating room post-surgery and ensuring the correct routing of equipment and materials.

This position reports directly to the Manager.

About Our Core Operating Room Team

Our Core Operating Room department consists of around 80 highly skilled professionals who work collaboratively in a dynamic surgical environment. We handle a diverse range of specialties, including general surgery, gynecology, urology, plastic surgery, bariatrics, robotics, thoracics, trauma, and transplant. Our team thrives on the variety and complexity of surgical cases, functioning as integral members of a multidisciplinary team that includes surgeons, anesthesiologists, and support staff, all dedicated to delivering top-notch medical and surgical care.

As a Level I Trauma Center, we are among the largest and most esteemed teaching hospitals, equipped with cutting-edge technology and facilities, including the Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation (CESI), one of the world’s most advanced medical simulation training centers. We are committed to ensuring patient safety and fostering interprofessional collaboration at every level.

Qualifications
  • Completion of a Surgical Technology Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP).
  • Certification through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTA) or the ability to obtain certification within one year of employment.
  • Current CPR and BLS certification, along with participation in annual Validation Day.
  • Familiarity with various surgical procedures, with the ability to anticipate the surgeon's needs and recognize potential challenges.
  • Knowledge of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining a sterile field in accordance with established policies and regulations.
  • Understanding of basic patient care and safety principles.
  • Ability to apply aseptic techniques to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Awareness of emergency situations in the operating room.
