Job Summary
Launch your engineering career with a role that offers real-world impact. As an Engineer I - Grid Planning, you'll work alongside experienced professionals to support the planning, design, and reliability of the electric system that serves thousands of customers across our communities.
What you will do
  • Follows safety rules and practices to identify and correct unsafe conditions for self and team. Strives to identify problems and solutions and makes safety suggestions to assist in maintaining a safe work environment, uses tools and standards to design safety in operating and maintaining equipment.
  • Learns basic customer needs and expectations and strives to identify system problems and solutions within assigned work with guidance.
  • Learns to communicate and build relationships with employees, business unit stakeholders, and contractors. Learns to discuss technical issues with others from non-technical backgrounds.
  • Applies regulatory and organizational engineering standards, processes, and procedures to solve problems limited in scope.
  • Learns to facilitate meetings and lead discussions with stakeholders in support of system studies with guidance provided.
  • Develops critical thinking skills necessary in the interpretation of governmental regulations, regional or company business practices
  • Learns risk assessment methodologies or philosophies applying technical knowledge. Makes low-risk decisions with guidance provided.
  • Learns basic understanding of the departmental budgeting and planning processes. Learns oversight of multi-year plan and development of simple scopes of work with cost estimate, sequencing, and prioritization with guidance provided.
  • Learns the basics of the property unit catalog and the difference between capital investments and O&M spend.
  • Learns basic understanding of system modeling methodologies and software with support. Builds simple models and performs power flow studies or analysis.
  • Learns basic understanding of interconnection agreement or other relevant agreement language, terminology, technical requirements and how studies support development of contract terms with guidance provided.
  • Learns basic understanding of the tools, data, and process for supporting simple technical reviews and studies related to distribution energy resource interconnection applications with guidance provided. Learns basic understanding of power quality concepts.
  • Engages in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy's Values and helps deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.

Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering program that is accredited through the Engineering Accreditation Commission Required

  • Previous technical and/or professional experience
  • An internship or co-op in engineering

Pay Range:
$66,000 - $85,000
This position is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position, experience, skill set, internal pay equity and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.
