Simulation Software Engineer Internship information

What does a simulation software engineer intern do?

A Simulation Software Engineer Intern assists in developing and testing software models that simulate real-world processes or systems. They typically work with experienced engineers to write code, debug simulations, and analyze results to ensure accuracy and efficiency. Interns may use tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, or Python, and contribute to projects in fields like automotive, aerospace, or robotics. The role helps interns gain hands-on experience in software engineering and simulation technologies, preparing them for future careers in the industry.

What types of projects or tasks can I expect to work on during a simulation software engineer internship?

As a Simulation Software Engineer Intern, you will typically contribute to developing, testing, and refining simulation models used for validating real-world systems or products. Your daily tasks may include coding simulation algorithms, analyzing performance data, debugging issues, and collaborating with engineers from other disciplines such as hardware, robotics, or product design. Interns often work closely with mentors, attend team meetings, and may have opportunities to present findings or improvements. This role provides hands-on experience with industry-standard simulation tools and fosters valuable teamwork and technical skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a simulation software engineer intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Simulation Software Engineer Intern, you need a strong foundation in programming languages (such as C++, Python, or MATLAB), mathematical modeling, and computer science principles, typically supported by ongoing or completed coursework in engineering or related fields. Familiarity with simulation tools (like Simulink or Modelica), version control systems (such as Git), and possibly exposure to CAD or physics engines is often required. Problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, teamwork, and effective communication are important soft skills for this role. These skills and qualities are crucial for accurately developing, testing, and refining simulation models within collaborative engineering environments.

What is the difference between Simulation Software Engineer Internship vs Simulation Software Engineer?

AspectSimulation Software Engineer InternshipSimulation Software Engineer
Required CredentialsCurrently pursuing or recently completed a relevant degree (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering)Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field, with some roles preferring experience or certifications
Work EnvironmentInternship programs, often in corporate R&D or product teams, with mentorshipFull-time professional role in engineering teams, often in R&D or product development
Employer & Industry UsageUsed by tech companies, automotive, aerospace, and simulation firms for training and developmentEmployed in similar industries, focusing on developing and maintaining simulation software products

The main difference is that a Simulation Software Engineer Internship is a temporary, learning-focused position for students or recent graduates, while a Simulation Software Engineer is a full-time professional role requiring more experience and responsibility in developing simulation software.

Job description

Vantor is forging the new frontier of spatial intelligence, helping decision makers and operators navigate what's happening now and shape what's coming next. Vantor is a place for problem solvers, changemakers, and go-getters-where people are working together to help our customers see the world differently, and in doing so, be seen differently. Come be part of a mission, not just a job, where you can: Shape your own future, build the next big thing, and change the world. To be eligible for this position, you must be a U.S. Citizen. This position requires an active U.S. Government security clearance, applicants who do not currently hold the required clearance will not be eligible for consideration. Employment for cleared roles is contingent upon verification of clearance status. Export Control/ITAR: Certain roles may be subject to U.S. export control laws, requiring U.S. person status as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3). Please review the job details below. Vantor is seeking an Aerospace Modeling & Simulation Software Engineer to develop software capabilities that support advanced Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance studies for government and commercial customers. In this role, you will build and enhance simulation tools, data processing workflows, analysis applications, and visualization capabilities used to evaluate future space, airborne, and sensor systems. This is a hands-on technical role for a software developer with an aerospace mindset-someone who enjoys designing practical tools, improving simulation capabilities, working with large technical datasets, and translating complex mission needs into reliable, maintainable software. You will contribute across fast-paced studies and longer-term efforts that help shape the systems and architectures of the future. Note: U.S. citizenship and an active TS/SCI clearance are mandatory for this position and required for consideration. What You'll Do * Design, develop, test, and maintain software tools that support aerospace modeling, simulation, mission analysis, and data visualization.
* Add new features and capabilities to high-fidelity physics based simulators used to evaluate space, airborne, and ISR sensor systems.
* Design and implement modular, maintainable software architectures that enable new simulation features, reusable analysis workflows, and efficient integration with existing modeling and engineering tools.
* Develop scripts, applications, APIs, and data pipelines to support scenario generation, simulation execution, post-processing, analysis, and reporting.
* Work with aerospace engineers, analysts, and customers to translate mission needs, study objectives, and operational concepts into software requirements and technical solutions.
* Build efficient data processing and visualization workflows for large simulation datasets.
* Improve simulator performance, maintainability, usability, automation, and overall workflow efficiency.
* Perform debugging, verification, validation, and QA/QC of software tools, simulation inputs, outputs, and analytical results.
* Apply modern software engineering practices, including version control, testing, documentation, code reviews, and configuration management.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams while also owning independent software development and analysis tasks. Required Qualifications * U.S. citizenship with an active or current TS/SCI clearance.
* Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field.
* 5 years experience.
* Experience developing software, scripts, tools, or applications in support of engineering, modeling and simulation, data analysis, or mission analysis.
* Experience with Python, C++, Java, C#, MATLAB, JavaScript, or similar programming languages.
* Familiarity with aerospace systems, space systems, airborne systems, ISR missions, sensors, mission analysis, or simulation environments.
* Willingness to work on-site. Desired/Preferred Qualifications * Advanced degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field.
