Job description

Position Description & Qualifications Serco supports the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division's PC-based Open-architecture Reconfigurable Training System (PORTS) program based in Middletown, RI. We are looking for a qualified Software Engineer to join our team. This role will be responsible for designing and developing simulation-based operator and team training systems for the US Navy.

This position is contingent upon your ability to obtain, transfer, and maintain a Department of War (DoW) Secret security clearance post-employment. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams. As a senior team member, you will be a leading voice in team meetings and be a crucial member of the trainer development team.

Qualified applicants should have strong engineering experience with software design, development, and integration processes. In this role, you will: * Lead by example with a strong work ethic, technical rigor, and professionalism during day-to-day operations and customer engagement activities. * Design, develop, and maintain Instructor and Student graphical user interfaces (GUIs), including displays, controls, and user workflows.

* Develop and enhance backend simulation and modeling software to support scenario-driven training outcomes. * Design, implement, and maintain interfaces between user-facing front-end components and backend simulation services. * Collaborate with software, systems, and test teams to support the generation, analysis, and review of software requirements and design artifacts.

* Perform software development, integration, debugging, and optimization using C++ and C# on the Windows platform. * Review peer code and promote sound software engineering practices, standards compliance, and maintainability. * Apply industry standards, emerging technologies, and lessons learned to support continuous process improvement.

To be successful in this role, you will have: * The ability to obtain, transfer, and maintain a DoW Secret security clearance post-employment. * A U.S. citizenship.

* A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. * Eight (8) years' experience in software development, with emphasis on coding in C++ and C#. * Strong understanding of GUI design principles and user interface development.

* Experience working in .NET environment with extensive use of Visual Studio. * Experience authoring engineering documentation such as Requirements and Design Documents, Test Plans, Test Procedures, and Users Guides. * The ability to travel 10%.

Preferred Qualifications: * Experience with modeling and simulation systems, particularly training or mission rehearsal environments. * Knowledge of U.S. Navy command and control, sensor, or weapons systems.

* Experience working with virtual machines and virtualized environments. * Familiarity with Software Configuration Management (SCM) tools and disciplined development processes. * Knowledge of open architecture concepts and modular system design.

* Experience with real-time and distributed systems. * Network and middleware experience, including one or more of the following: * CORBA * RTI DDS * DIS * HLA * Exposure to Enterprise Architecture concepts. * Experience supporting or complying with the DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF).
