The Non Ferrous Scale Operator is responsible for inspecting, identifying, grading, and documenting non-ferrous scrap metals received at the recycling facility. This position ensures materials are properly classified and processed in accordance with company standards while providing excellent customer service. The role also operates truck and customer scales, accurately records transactions, prepares required documentation, and supports safe and efficient yard operations.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Inspect incoming non-ferrous materials to determine metal type, grade, quality, and contamination levels.
  • Identify and classify materials including aluminum, copper, brass, stainless steel, nickel alloys, insulated wire, and other non-ferrous commodities.
  • Verify material quality and compliance with company purchasing specifications.
  • Separate and direct materials to the appropriate processing or storage locations.
  • Detect prohibited, hazardous, radioactive, or unacceptable materials and follow established procedures.
  • Communicate pricing classifications and grading decisions to customers and team members.
  • Maintain accurate records of material inspections and transactions.
  • Operate inbound and outbound truck scales and customer scales.
  • Weigh vehicles and materials accurately and efficiently.Generate scale tickets, purchase receipts, invoices, and transaction documentation.
  • Enter customer, vehicle, and material information into the company's scale software and databases.
  • Ensure all transactions comply with company policies and applicable regulations.
  • Balance scale transactions and maintain accurate records at the end of each shift.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift; prior forklift experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred
  • Must be able to pass background check, and drug test
  • 2 or 4 year college degree in Business or equivalent preferred
  • Computer literate
  • Must know how to operate forklift and bobcat
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred

Working Conditions:
  • Primarily outdoor/yard environment with exposure to noise, dust, and heavy equipment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs, climb, bend, and work in physically demanding conditions.
  • Occasional weekend or extended hours may be required depending on business needs.
