We want someone passionate about engineering, architecture and problem solving.
The Senior Consulting Engineer/Architect will act as project manager for small to medium-sized projects. Responsibilities will include new design consultation, as well as the evaluation, investigation, and repair design for existing buildings. This individual will manage complex standalone projects or multiple concurrent projects, including mentoring junior staff and fostering strong client relationships. This role requires active professional engagement within the individual's area of technical expertise, including participation in relevant associations and committees. Essential duties include climbing ladders and scaffolds, working at significant heights, and traveling by car, train / subway and air to multiple job sites. This is an in-office position located in Oakland, CA, with the potential for flexible working hours.
What You'll Do:
  • Consult on building enclosure waterproofing design and construction to contractors, architects, developers, building owners, property managers, and construction managers.
  • Perform peer reviews of Architect's plans and specifications. Draft sketches to convey design concepts or sequencing clarifications.
  • Provide site visits and responses to submittals and requests for information during the construction administration phase of projects.
  • Perform water leakage testing of roofing and waterproofing systems, windows, curtain walls, and other building components.
  • Observe and document localized destructive testing of all envelope components including wall claddings, windows, roofs, skylights, flooring, plaza waterproofing and below grade elements.
  • Assist Partners in coordinating and managing site investigations to verify building enclosure as built conditions and develop remediation recommendations.
  • Author reports to convey investigation findings and recommendations.
  • Design remedial repairs to existing building systems, including walls, roofs, window and curtain wall systems, and plaza waterproofing systems. This includes drafting drawings and specifications suitable for bidding and construction.
  • Perform faรงade surveys and write reports in accordance with the city of San Francisco's Faรงade Ordinance.
  • Provide litigation support for projects involving all the issues discussed above.
  • Provide on-the-job training and mentoring to entry level and junior staff.
  • Manage multiple projects, including coordinating contracts and additional service requests, reviewing invoices, and evaluating project staffing and budgets.
  • Remain professionally active in local or national industry groups, prepare publications, and give both internal and external presentations.

What You'll Need:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering or Architectural Engineering plus over 10 years of experience with an architectural/engineering firm, construction firm, or construction management firm; or a Master's Degree plus over 7 years of industry experience.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Registered Architect (R.A.) license required.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong computer graphic skills (experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Revit and Microsoft suite are desired).
  • Experience in any of the following areas is a plus: curtain wall design, historic preservation, roofing/waterproofing consulting, and public speaking.
  • Ability to travel to remote job sites not accessible by public transportation, and if applicable, an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.

Compensation:
The below range is a good faith estimate pursuant to applicable equal pay and pay transparency laws. The actual salary offered will be based on several factors including the candidate's experience, qualifications and work location.
Base salary is a part of SGH's industry leading Total Compensation package. Our Total Compensation package includes base salary, pay for extra hours worked, an annual discretionary bonus program, generous paid time off, and health and wellness benefits with a special emphasis on substantial SGH contributions to medical insurance premiums and SGH's Profit Sharing & 401(k) Plan.
This position is eligible for a $7,500 sign-on bonus.
Senior Consulting Engineer or Senior Project Consultant:
$106,600-$149,240 USD
