Job description

Provides instruction, leadership and maintains a safe environment while conducting and monitoring effective and enjoyable group exercise classes.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF A GROUP FITNESS INSTRUCTOR:

  • Create positive lasting memories for each participant, each day.
  • Motivate and lead class participants through fun, enjoyable Silver Sneaker classes.

*This is not an exhaustive list of job duties. Other duties, responsibilities and activities may be assigned.

REQUIREMENTS TO BE A GROUP FITNESS INSTRUCTOR:

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have solid fitness industry knowledge.
  • Possesses mature judgment and sound decision-making.
  • Demonstrated customer service and communication skills.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience teaching group fitness classes preferred.
  • Ability to motivate others in the areas of self-awareness and self-confidence.
  • Must be observant, safety conscious and able to react calmly and quickly in an emergency.
  • Valid and current Silver Sneakers certification or another group fitness certification of similar class style.
  • Current "specialty class" certifications as required: such as MOSSA, Silver Sneakers, Zumba, Mat Pilates, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach group exercise in a proficient manner. Ability to instruct and observe participants using proper exercise techniques.
  • Required Certifications: current state approved First Aid and CPR/AED, current, National Certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in-group fitness instruction or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise Certification.
