Job description

DESCRIPTION This position is considered a Safety-Sensitive position. Applicants who pass the interview process will be subject to drug and alcohol testing. The purpose of this position is the operations and maintenance of electrical and electronic equipment in the Intelligent Transportation System.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES Essential Functions: Must be able to communicate with others in spoken and written English to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the business. Conducts field studies to determine the effectiveness of signals, traffic volumes, signs, and markings; installs, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures; services electrical control systems. Operates, repairs, and installs the client and server components of the IP, fiber & CCTV network; programs Ethernet switches, cameras, and other network devices; monitors fiber and Ethernet MAN for issues that need to be addressed.

Inspects and monitors assigned city projects to ensure compliance with the city's specifications, standards, and codes; reviews equipment submittals; review contractors' monthly pay requests and adjusts any items inconsistent with actual work performed. Prepares requisitions and purchase orders for routine items; receives and stocks inventory items; coordinates with vendors regarding item specifications, material availability and pricing; authorizes invoices. Develops, tests, and programs ITS equipment, ex: coordinated timing plans, intersection phasing, and conflict monitor.

Reviews, coordinates, and oversees roadway improvements plans with city contracted workers including traffic signals, Closed Circuit Television, communication equipment, roadway striping and Interstate Lighting. Inspects roadway striping for improvements as well as modifications; designs and implements plans for new signalized intersections, school zones and roadway striping. Creates or gathers reports for traffic signal studies and maintenance reports.

Provides estimates for installations and equipment; creates spreadsheets to assist in documentation or inventory of equipment. Locates traffic signal underground utilities in the field including conduits, cables, and pull boxes around construction sites. Programs and deploys portable message boards; program appropriate message on message boards for construction or emergency situations as directed.

Performs other work as assigned. Physical Demands: Refer to Essential Functions Addendum #7. TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Requires High School diploma or GED equivalent.

Completion of one (1) year of college in computer technology, programming, electronics or electrical engineering or closely related field preferred. Must have two (2) years of experience in traffic signal installation, operation, troubleshooting and repair techniques or related field. Special Certifications and Licenses: Must have a valid driver's license.
