Job description

Description:

Company: Ulm Automotive LLC

Department: Production

Reports to: Production Manager, through the Assistant Production Manager and station leads

Location: Bogart, GA (on-site)

Employment type: Full-time, hourly, non-exempt; paid weekly

Direct reports: None

Position Summary

Production Technicians build the vehicle. Ulm converts incomplete Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis into luxury passenger vehicles, and every interior panel, floor, seat, cabinet, wire, and trim piece is installed by hand at a station on our floor. The Production Technician completes assigned station work to the drawing, to the standard hours, and to a finish quality that belongs in a vehicle at this price point.

This is skilled, hands-on work. We hire for craftsmanship and reliability first and train the product-specific steps. Technicians are placed at Level I, II, or III based on demonstrated skill, with a defined path to lead.

Key Responsibilities

Assembly & Installation

  • Complete station work as assigned: sound insulation and thermal barrier, wall and ceiling panels, flooring, cabinetry and fixtures, seating and restraint hardware, headliner and trim, lighting, and accessory installation.
  • Route and secure electrical harnesses, terminate connectors, and install 12V components to the drawing and the wiring standard.
  • Drill, cut, fit, and fasten to the drawing; measure twice; protect the chassis and installed finishes at every step.
  • Torque all structural and safety-critical fasteners to specification and mark them as verified.

Build Quality & Documentation

  • Build to the current drawing and BOM revision only; stop and ask the lead if the drawing, the kit, and the vehicle do not agree.
  • Inspect your own work before calling it complete; sign the build record and station checklists honestly and on time.
  • Tag and report any nonconformity, damaged part, or short-shipped kit the moment you find it rather than working around it.
  • Support final inspection findings with prompt, clean rework.

Materials & Tools

  • Verify kits against the pick list before starting; return unused parts to point-of-use stock.
  • Keep assigned hand and power tools in working order; use calibrated torque tools where the drawing calls for them.
  • Help maintain point-of-use stock accuracy and flag shortages before they stop the station.

Safety & Housekeeping

  • Follow all shop safety rules, wear required PPE, and keep your station clean and organized to the 5S standard.
  • Report injuries, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Protect vehicles in process: covers, masking, and careful handling of finished surfaces.

Continuous Improvement

  • Follow standard work and suggest improvements that cut hours, scrap, or rework; help update the standard when a better method is proven.
  • Cross-train on adjacent stations so the line can flex with absences and mix.

Skill Levels

  • Technician I - entry level with solid hand skills; completes standard station work under lead direction; learning the product.
  • Technician II - fully qualified on two or more stations; works to standard hours without supervision; trains new hires on their station.
  • Technician III / Lead - qualified across a value stream; owns first-piece checks and station quality; runs the station when the lead is out; troubleshoots fit and electrical problems.
Requirements:

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of hands-on assembly, automotive, cabinetry, upholstery, or electrical installation work, or a completed trade program plus 1 year of experience.
  • Ability to read and work from drawings, pick lists, and written work instructions.
  • Competent with hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments; understands torque and fastener basics.
  • Attention to finish quality: no scratches, gaps, or loose trim leave your station.
  • Reliable attendance and the ability to work scheduled overtime during production ramps.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, stand for a full shift, and work kneeling, bending, and inside or under a vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in automotive interiors, vehicle upfit, RV, marine, or aircraft interior installation.
  • 12V automotive electrical experience: harness routing, crimping, soldering, and reading schematics.
  • Woodworking, cabinet installation, or trim carpentry skills.
  • ASE certification or an automotive technology certificate.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.

Physical & Work Environment

Full shift on an active production floor with exposure to noise, machinery, adhesives, and standard plant conditions; PPE is required in designated areas. Frequent lifting, reaching overhead, kneeling, and working in confined vehicle interiors.

Compensation & Benefits

Hourly rate by level:

     - Technician I: $20 to $23

     - Technician II: $24 to $28

     - Technician III / Lead: $29 to $34)

  • Overtime paid at time and a half over 40 hours in the workweek
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Paid time off and holidays; on-the-job training and tool and certification support
