Job description

Production Artist / Prepress Graphic Artist

Part-Time with Opportunity to Become Full-Time
Fort Collins, Colorado

We are an established commercial printing and design company headquartered in Texas, with a remote production office in Fort Collins, Colorado. We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Production Artist to assist with prepress production, basic graphic design, and presentation mockups.

This position is ideal for an experienced production artist who enjoys creating accurate, clean, well-organized artwork and understands the importance of preparing files correctly for print.

Position Overview

The Production Artist will work directly with the Art Director on a wide variety of commercial printing and promotional projects, including:

  • Business cards, forms, signs, banners, decals, and other printed materials
  • Apparel, cap, promotional product, and signage presentation mockups
  • Prepress file preparation and production artwork
  • Rebuilding, correcting, and cleaning up customer-supplied artwork
  • Resizing and adapting existing designs for different products and formats
  • Preparing accurate, organized, print-ready files
  • Reviewing artwork for spelling, dimensions, resolution, color, bleeds, and production requirements

Most assignments involve prepress production and straightforward design work rather than highly conceptual branding or advertising campaigns.

There is no customer contact required. The Production Artist will work directly with the Art Director and other members of our production team.

Required Skills

  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop
  • Ability to create highly accurate, clean, and well-organized artwork
  • Understanding of print production and prepress requirements
  • Ability to work with vector and raster artwork
  • Experience creating realistic presentation mockups for apparel, caps, signs, banners, and promotional products
  • Strong attention to detail, including spelling, alignment, dimensions, color, and file organization
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain consistency across multiple projects
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to manage several projects and priorities at the same time
  • Dependable, punctual, and reliable

Applicants must take pride in producing precise, professional work. This is not a suitable position for someone who is careless with details, file organization, or production specifications.

Preferred Experience

Previous experience in one or more of the following environments is preferred:

  • Commercial printing company
  • Sign or wide-format printing company
  • Small advertising or graphic design firm
  • Promotional products or decorated apparel company
  • In-house marketing or art department
  • Prepress or print-production department

Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, print imposition, color correction, and production workflows is also helpful.

Schedule

The regular work schedule is:

Monday through Friday
10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

This position will begin as part-time, with the potential to become full-time within approximately three months based on workload, performance, and mutual fit.

Location and Remote Work

The position requires an initial two-week, on-site training and onboarding period at our Fort Collins office.

After successful completion of onboarding, the position may transition to primarily remote work. However, applicants must live within approximately 10 miles of the Fort Collins office and be available to work on-site when needed.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is:

  • Extremely detail-oriented
  • Organized and methodical
  • Comfortable working independently
  • Receptive to feedback and art direction
  • Able to follow established file-naming and organization standards
  • Consistent, reliable, and punctual
  • Focused on accuracy rather than rushing through assignments
  • Comfortable performing production-oriented work on a daily basis

To Apply

Please submit your résumé along with a portfolio or samples demonstrating relevant production artwork, prepress experience, print design, apparel mockups, signage, banners, or similar work.

Please also include a brief description of your experience with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, commercial printing, and print-ready file preparation.
