The Shuttle Drivers are responsible for safely and efficiently operating diesel-powered tractor-trailer combination Commercial Motor Vehicles to transport and deliver products or materials under FMCSA regulations and company policies. This role is an essential "local" logistical position that has a set route between a production facility and a local warehouse, meaning drivers can expect to be home daily.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ensure a safe and productive workday by promptly completing the start of shift activities, reviewing the work schedule, checking equipment and supplies required to perform the scheduled work, and preparing for operations.
  • Drive safely following all motor vehicle laws without distraction and maintain a safe working environment by completing all assigned safety training activities and adhering to all safety policies and procedures, including but not limited to conducting Department of Transportation (DOT) daily pre-trip and daily post-trip inspections of vehicle, if required.
  • Conduct a daily pre-trip and post-trip safety inspection and in route safety inspection of trucks and various trailers to ensure safe operation of all equipment according to FMCSA regulations.
  • Always operate the tractor-trailer safely and legally, in compliance with all applicable laws and company policy.
  • Check and complete accurately and legibly all the required paperwork associated with freight, obtaining required signatures and documentation verifying cargo pick-up and delivery. Utilizing Samsara device to upload bill of lading and proof of delivery for each load.
  • Use an electronic log to ensure a record of daily service hours following FMCSA, state, and company requirements.
  • Load and secure cargo against movement or damage within the trailer while maintaining seal control as required, frequently backing trailers up to the dock doors with other trailers on either side of the dock. Raise and lower landing gear, open and close cargo doors. Climb on and off landing gear.
  • Attendance expectations is that drivers depart the facility by their published start time.
  • Couple and uncouple trucks from various trailers, slide tandems as needed; secure all equipment and machinery, complete all required paperwork and refuel truck with diesel fuel and DEF.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Ability to traverse steps, platforms, protrusions, narrow accesses, concrete, steel, wood floors, uneven surfaces, to safely enter and exit tractors and trailers; while lifting and carrying, up to 25 lbs. and infrequently lifting, jerking, or pulling up to 100lbs. 5th wheel, sliding tandems with or without accommodations.
  • Requires frequent walking, bending, climbing in and out of tractors and trailers, kneeling, and squatting.
  • Ability to back trailers up to the dock doors with other trailers on either side of the dock.
  • Ability to read and comprehend information relayed by Driver Manager or the Production, Receiving Facilities.
  • Must be able to lower and raise landing gear, open and close cargo doors while climbing on and off the vehicle safely.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must possess 12 months (1 year) of verifiable driving experience within the previous 24 months (2 Years).
  • Must have and maintain a valid Class A CDL (Commercial Driver's License) valid for Interstate driving using manual and automatic transmission, without an air brake restriction from the state of residence.
  • Successfully complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, physical, and background check, which will include previous employment check, and motor vehicle record review
  • Acceptable driving record required.
  • Must have the ability to read and clearly speak the English language. Understand highway traffic signs and signals, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.

  • Work environment will vary, including but not limited to exposure to weather conditions.
  • 25% of work time is outside, exposed to a variety of weather conditions, including high and low temperatures, humidity, wind, and rain, etc.
