What is a shuttle driver?

Shuttle drivers are professional drivers responsible for transporting passengers between specific locations, such as airports, hotels, campuses, or parking lots, using a shuttle vehicle. Their duties typically include ensuring the safe and timely transportation of passengers, assisting with luggage, and maintaining a clean and well-functioning vehicle. Shuttle drivers may also provide customer service, answer questions about routes or schedules, and adhere to all traffic and safety regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a shuttle driver?

To thrive as a Shuttle Driver, you need a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL), a clean driving record, and familiarity with local routes. Experience with GPS navigation systems, scheduling software, and vehicle safety checks is typically required. Strong customer service, punctuality, and calm problem-solving under pressure are standout soft skills. These skills ensure passenger safety, reliable transportation, and a positive experience for all riders.

What are some common challenges shuttle drivers face in their daily work, and how can they overcome them?

Shuttle drivers often encounter challenges such as managing unpredictable traffic conditions, maintaining punctual schedules, and ensuring passenger safety and comfort. Adapting to different routes and handling various passenger needs, especially during peak hours or special events, can also be demanding. You will help keep automotive operations running smoothly by transporting newly manufactured vehicles from the production facility to assigned parking and staging areas. This is not a delivery, rideshare, or valet position. All driving takes place within the customer's vehicle-processing operation.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Drive new vehicles safely between production, staging, and storage areas.
  • Follow designated travel routes and facility traffic procedures.
  • Park vehicles precisely in assigned spaces.
  • Verify vehicle information and document parking locations.
  • Observe vehicles for visible damage or concerns and report findings.
  • Coordinate with team members to maintain an organized flow of vehicles.
  • Frequently enter and exit vehicles throughout the workday.
  • Perform duties outdoors in changing seasonal weather.
  • Maintain awareness of pedestrians, equipment, and surrounding activity.
  • Follow all Road & Rail Services, customer, and facility safety policies.
  • Assist with other vehicle-processing responsibilities as assigned.
What Will Help You Succeed

A current, valid state-issued driver's license.

Ability to operate and park vehicles safely.

Dependable attendance and punctuality.

Strong attention to detail and surroundings.

Ability to follow specific driving and parking instructions.

Willingness to walk approximately three to five miles per shift.

Ability to work outside in heat, cold, rain, snow, and sunlight.

Comfort repeatedly entering and exiting vehicles.

A safety-focused and team-oriented approach.

Ability to perform the essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

Benefits for Eligible Employees
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match
  • Paid holidays
  • Paid time off after one year
  • Annual work shoe or boot allowance
  • Company-provided personal protective equipment
  • Full-time employment
  • Training and advancement opportunities
