Job description

Job Title: Shuttle Bus Driver
Full-Time position - 40 hours per week
Pay Rate: $20.00 per hour
Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:20am - 4:20pm.
The Leisure World Community located in Silver Spring, MD, is seeking Full-time shuttle bus driver to operate a passenger shuttle bus on scheduled runs within the Leisure World of Maryland community and to area shopping centers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & BASIC DUTIES:
  • Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspection of assigned vehicle.
  • Picks up, transports assist, and discharges passengers at designated stops within the Leisure World of Maryland community and area shopping centers. Regulates heating and ventilating equipment on buses for the comfort of passengers.
  • Operates assigned vehicle safely, in all types of weather and traffic conditions, in order to prevent any motor vehicle-related accident to passengers, pedestrians, motorists, or property. Adheres to all traffic laws while operating buses.
  • Ensures that all passengers are seated prior to moving the bus.
  • Reports all accidents, incidents, or unusual occurrences to Director of Security/designee immediately; submits written reports on accidents, incidents, unusual occurrences as required.
  • Reports damages, defects, malfunctions of Bus to Director of Vehicle Maintenance.
  • In the event of an accident, contact Special Police Officer on duty immediately. Records all passenger's names and phone numbers and indicates if anyone is injured.
  • Timely and accurately completes all reports as assigned including but not limited to daily "bus defect" cards, passenger, and mileage logs.
  • Arrives and signs in on time and works hours as scheduled.
  • Adheres to all routes and schedules.
  • Monitors security radio at all times.
  • Adheres to applicable regulations related to the Americans with Disability Act (ADA); correctly operating wheelchair lift with proper safety restraints as requested by the passenger.
  • Interacts with passengers in a courteous, professional, and helpful manner.
  • Must be able to lift 10-25 lbs.

LICENSE
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
EDUCATION
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
YEARS AND TYPE OF EXPERIENCE
2 plus years related bus driving experience.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
  • Ability to apply proper driving techniques and procedures.
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences (English).
  • Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
  • Ability to enter, transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in written or electronic form.
  • Ability to provide information to supervisors, co-workers, by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in-person.
  • Ability to identify and respond to customer needs in a courteous manner.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely verbally and in writing.
