Job description

Position Summary
The Millwright provides superior craftsmanship in the safe, efficient, and effective maintenance and repair of rotating equipment systems in the Geismar plant.
Position Responsibilities
  • Executes the rotating equipment preventive maintenance (PM) program and report relevant findings
  • Works under the direction of the Rotating Equipment Supervisor on the overhaul of rotating equipment during routine operations, turnarounds, and shutdowns
  • Works with team members and subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop short, medium and long-term solutions to remove defects in the plants and improve plant reliability and lower cost of maintenance
  • Participates and leads in Root Cause Failure Analysis, researches equipment history and implements corrective action
  • Participates and leads risk assessment on-site as required
  • Collaborates and supports Operations with the development and maintenance of rotating equipment related Operating Procedures
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs rotating equipment, including turbines, compressors, fin fans, cooling tower fans, pumps, and gearboxes
  • Performs predictive, preventative, and corrective maintenance using techniques, such as oil analysis, vibration data collection/analysis, precision laser alignment, strobe light inspection, and various other maintenance techniques
  • Performs time-based maintenance intervention/activities, such as inspections, oil changes, filter replacements, overhauls, and greasing of rotating equipment
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems associated with all rotating equipment and its corresponding systems
  • Reacts efficiently and effectively to equipment failures or reliability issues while keeping safety and quality as a top priority
  • Documents equipment history and completes detailed reporting of equipment inspections and repairs
  • Provides regular feedback to the Planning team on areas for improvement, changes to job plans, and optimization of the planned time and material reservation
  • Assists with the sourcing, ordering, and inspection of new/used equipment, parts and components, as required
  • Builds strong relationships within the organization; these include other departments, global sites, and global team members
  • Reads and interprets equipment maintenance manuals, cross-sectional drawings, technical data sheets, P&ID, process drawings, and global best practices
  • Creates and manages work orders, purchase requisitions, etc. in a Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Identifies work through walk-downs, routine surveillance or upon completion of CBM, PM or corrective work, and completes work requests on the CMMS in accordance with approved process
  • Completes daily timesheets and documents hours worked on specific work orders
  • Responds efficiently to plant emergencies, including after-hours events and call-outs, as required
  • Assists in the continued revision of spare parts and equipment documentation
  • Assists with Rotating Equipment Project design, implementation, and management when required or requested
  • Ensures basic understanding of rigging and lifting equipment, principles, and techniques
  • Provides guidance and leadership to the team
  • Contributes to the organizational vision of Global Methanol Leadership and as a team member demonstrates the core values of integrity, trust, respect and professionalism
  • Conducts all business on-site in a manner that supports and is in alignment with the Organization Responsible Care Safety Programs
  • Acts as Safety Control System Performing authority: assists in ensuring all safety precautions are taken, job hazards are identified and mitigated, and all site policies/procedures are understood and followed
  • Conducts safety audits, participates in site safety meetings, and contributes to site safety initiatives
  • Ensures the appropriate PPE are always worn
  • Participates in team events
  • Works with and assists other groups and departments to ensure goals and deliverables are met
  • Networks and promotes an environment of information sharing with other Methanex sites
  • Responsible for ensuring awareness of all controlled documents relating to this position as per the Document Awareness Report from Document Management Database
  • Completes Performance Management System requirements within the required time frame
  • Creates and documents developmental goals on the Performance Management System
  • Contributes to the ‘operational excellence’ for Methanex USA as an effective member of the Maintenance department
Position Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Mechanical Trade Certification or equivalent
  • 10+ years of experience as a Millwright or Mechanical tradesman for a manufacturing facility
  • Experience with Predictive and Preventative Maintenance programs and techniques
  • Experience with maintenance overhaul of rotating equipment, including high pressure steam turbine and compressors
  • Experience with laser alignment of rotating equipment
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, solve problems, and identify solutions
  • Experience with dry gas seals
  • Possesses excellent experience, knowledge, and understanding of dry gas seal fundamentals, inclusive of monitoring and replacement
  • Experience within a machine shop and using lathes, milling machines, and associated equipment preferred
  • Basic understanding of rigging and lifting equipment, principles, and techniques preferred
  • Understanding of condition monitoring activities and techniques such as vibration data collection, oil sampling, strobe light inspection, and thermography preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Maximo preferred
