Summary

We are currently recruiting for an Automation Specialist for our Control Systems Lifecycle Services Team to be based in either Grande Prairie, AB or Fort St John, BC. In this role, you will be working within the Control Systems Lifecycle and Project Services teams throughout the lifecycle of small and large scale industrial automation systems. Your work will be performed both in the office (physical or home office) and at customer sites, applying DCS knowledge and experience to design, implement, test, deliver, integrate, commission, optimize, and support Emerson DeltaV Process Control Systems (DeltaV) and DeltaV Safety Instrumented Systems (DeltaV SIS) in new and existing industrial automation solutions. The successful candidate will report to the Manager, Control Systems Lifecycle Care. 

This role requires flexibility through working rotations at other Spartan locations and at customer sites to support engineering, commissioning, and planned support services through the lifecycle of the automation system.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Provide technical application and implementation of Emerson Process Management DeltaV Systems (DeltaV and DeltaV SIS) solutions to customers and maintain awareness of their technical requirements 
  • Leverage DeltaV technologies to improve/optimize performance at customer plants 
  • System Design 
    • Work with customer's process and electrical engineers to define functional requirements 
    • Design system architecture, network architecture, 3rd party interfaces, and control and marshalling cabinets 
    • Work with the Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) department to produce drawings 
  • System Configuration 
    • Configure control strategies, shutdown keys, and Safety Instrumented Functions (SIFs) 
    • Develop Human-Machine Interface (HMI) graphics 
    • Interface with third party products (PLCs, HMIs, OPC Clients, Historians) 
  • Internal Verification and Factory Acceptance Testing 
    • Conduct Internal Hardware and Software Acceptance Testing 
    • Conduct Factory Hardware and Software Acceptance Testing with customers 
    • Support System Integration Functional Testing (SIFT) 
  • Site Acceptance Testing with customers
  • Plant Commissioning at customer Sites: 
    • Loop checks 
    • Human-Machine Interface (HMI) / Graphics checks 
    • 3rd party interface checks 
    • Integration with business systems (Plant Information / Manufacturing Execution / Maintenance Management / Asset Management Systems) 
    • Troubleshooting 
    • Documentation 
  • Provide planned services to customers 
    • Backups 
    • Upgrades 
    • Integrations

  • Provide technical support during system shutdown and start-up activities 
  • Provide technical support for sales teams as required 
  • Provide input into improvement of current engineering and service processes and practices 
  • Participate on 7/24 phone support rotation (approx. 1 x 1-week rotations per year) 
  • Travel and shift rotations are required 
     
Qualifications and Skills
  • Instrumentation Engineering Technologist Diploma or B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering (emphasis on Process Control an asset)
  • Training will be provided; however, related process control system experience or safety systems experience an asset 
  • Strong technical/computer background 
  • Exceptional communication skills and customer service practices 
  • Successfully manage multiple priorities and assignments 
  • Work independently and within a team environment 
  • Entrepreneurial work ethic 
  • Willingness to travel; valid Class 5 driver license required
