The Construction Supervisor is responsible for overseeing industrial kiln construction, installation, maintenance, and repair projects throughout the region. This position supervises field construction activities, coordinates labor and subcontractors, and ensures compliance with engineering specifications, safety standards, and project schedules. The role is critical to the successful execution of construction projects by maintaining quality workmanship, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
• Supervise daily construction activities related to kiln installations, rebuilds, maintenance projects, and shutdowns.
• Coordinate with engineering, project management, production, and customer teams to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, P&IDs, construction specifications, and installation plans.
• Oversee installation of refractory brick, insulation systems, steel structures, combustion systems, burners, mechanical equipment, electrical components, ductwork, piping, and ventilation systems.
• Manage field crews, subcontractors, and specialty contractors to ensure productivity, quality, and compliance with project requirements.
• Conduct field inspections to verify adherence to quality standards, engineering specifications, and customer expectations.
• Schedule labor resources, equipment, materials, and subcontractor activities to support project execution.
• Enforce OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and jobsite safety procedures.
• Participate in project planning meetings, progress reporting, and construction coordination activities.
• Troubleshoot construction and installation issues in collaboration with engineering teams.
• Maintain accurate daily reports, construction logs, safety documentation, and project records.
• Assist with commissioning, startup, and operational testing of kiln systems and related equipment.
• Support preventive maintenance, shutdown, and outage activities at customer facilities.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:
• Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of five (5) years of industrial construction supervision experience.
• Experience supervising industrial construction projects involving mechanical, structural, refractory, or process equipment installations.
• Experience within ceramic manufacturing, refractory construction, furnace systems, kiln systems, thermal processing equipment, or similar heavy industrial environments strongly preferred.
Special Requirements:
• Valid driver's license required.
• Ability to travel to customer and project sites throughout the region.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, shutdowns, outages, and extended hours as required.
• Ability to work safely in industrial manufacturing and construction environments.
• Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and construction safety practices.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Strong knowledge of refractory materials, installation methods, and thermal processing systems.
• Understanding of industrial combustion systems, burners, fuel systems, and kiln operations.
• Knowledge of structural steel, mechanical equipment installation, piping systems, and ventilation systems.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, P&IDs, and technical specifications.
• Strong leadership and crew management skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
• Strong organizational, planning, and project coordination skills.
• Effective troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and construction reporting software.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Additional Desired Characteristics:
• Experience supervising industrial shutdowns, outages, and turnaround projects.
• Knowledge of ceramic manufacturing processes and kiln performance requirements.
• Familiarity with welding, rigging, crane operations, and heavy equipment usage.
• Experience managing multiple crews and subcontractors simultaneously.
• Customer-focused approach with strong relationship-building skills.
• Ability to make sound decisions in fast-paced construction environments.
Work Environment:
• Primarily field-based role supporting industrial construction, maintenance, and installation projects.
• Frequent exposure to manufacturing facilities, construction sites, and heavy industrial environments.
• Regular travel throughout the region required.
• May require climbing, lifting, standing, walking for extended periods, and working in varying weather conditions.
• Flexible work hours may be required to support project schedules, shutdowns, outages, and emergency maintenance activities.
