Description

A Mechanical Technician - Tier 1 at ShredSupply Inc. is responsible for restoring damaged, malfunctioning, and inoperative mobile document shredding and document transport trucks to proper working order under the direction of the Refurb Manager and Department Tier 2 Lead.  An employee in this position will assist Tier 2 Technicians in several areas of mechanics including engine, powertrain and industrial equipment. Due to using a diverse range of power tools and equipment, as well as frequent work on heavy equipment, an employee in this position must be committed to safety and best operating practices.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Inspect, repair, or replace defective or worn parts, such as bearings and gears
  • Disassemble and reassemble heavy equipment and components 
  • Van body box frame & truck chassis paint prep and basic painting
  •  Perform basic carpentry and metal fabrication work including drilling, cutting, and grinding
  • Integration and installation of lights into box build (basic wiring of 12v electrical systems after training/skill level is tested & meets standard)
  • Assemble hydraulics parts and service hydraulic pumps (after training/skill      level is tested & meets standard)
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

   Job Requirements 

  • 2 years in a mechanic trade w/ general knowledge of automotive repair preferred
  • Experienced with power & air tools (drills, Sawzall, etc.)
  • Need to be comfortable working over 12 vertical feet and up to 15 vertical feet on top of van body roof systems 
  • Forklift training & certification will be provided through the company certification program
  • 12v      automotive electrical experience preferred but not required (opportunity to train)
  • Hydraulic      knowledge will distinguish an applicant, but is not a requirement for applying (opportunity to train)
  • Basic metal fabrication including cutting and grinding
  • Welding experience will distinguish an applicant, but is not a requirement for applying (willingness and opportunity to train)
  • Ability      to troubleshoot and solve problems
  • Must      be detail oriented and thorough in following procedures
  • Able      to work alone and/or under supervision of the Refurb Manager & Lead
  • Attention      to detail, a personal commitment to safety, and the willingness to learn      are required for this position
  • Must be 18 years of age or      older 
  • Must      have reliable transportation for work commute
  • All      necessary tools and equipment are provided

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk, hear, use hands and fingers to handle or touch objects, tools, or controls. The employee is frequently required to stand walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employee must be able to move or lift up to 50 pounds and on occasion perform overhead work on frames up to 15 ft. in height and on top of roof systems. The employee must also be capable of climbing into a van body box using a ladder.
