Position Summary
The Substitute Teacher provides instructional support in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The substitute is responsible for implementing lesson plans, maintaining a structured classroom environment, and ensuring a safe and productive learning experience for students. Assignments may be short-term or day-to-day based on district needs and substitute availability.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with PEL preferred
  • Valid Illinois Substitute Teaching License
  • Valid Short-Term Substitute License

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Implement lesson plans and instructional activities prepared by the regular classroom teacher.
  • Maintain a positive and orderly classroom environment consistent with school expectations.
  • Supervise students in the classroom, hallways, and other assigned areas.
  • Follow school policies and procedures regarding student supervision, safety, and discipline.
  • Adapt instruction as needed to support continuity of learning during the teacher's absence.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and classroom activities during the assignment.
  • Communicate relevant information regarding the day's activities and any student concerns to the regular teacher or administration.
  • Utilize classroom technology and instructional materials appropriately to support instruction.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and maintain confidentiality regarding student and school information.
  • Follow district safety procedures and applicable regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the building administrator.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Work is performed primarily in a classroom and school environment with regular interaction with students and staff. The position requires the ability to operate instructional technology and visually and verbally monitor student behavior and classroom activities.
  • The ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the classroom and school building for extended periods while supervising and instructing students
  • The ability to bend, stoop, reach, and lift classroom materials or equipment up to approximately 20lbs.

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
