Description:

The Museum Store Co-Team Lead is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the Museum Store by providing leadership, operational oversight, and exceptional customer service during assigned shifts. Working closely with the Director of Sales & Retail Operations, the Co-Team Lead ensures the store operates efficiently, maintains accurate inventory, presents merchandise effectively, and delivers outstanding shopping experience for every guest.

As a member of the store leadership team, the Co-Team Lead is responsible for monitoring assigned operational areas, identifying issues, communicating concerns, and ensuring appropriate follow-up. While each Co-Team Lead is assigned primary ownership areas to provide accountability, Co-Team Leads are responsible for supporting all aspects of store operations and working collaboratively to achieve departmental goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Store Leadership & Operations:

  • Providing leadership and direction during assigned shifts by modeling professionalism, accountability, and exceptional customer service.
  • Supporting the daily operation of the Museum Store to ensure efficient and effective business operations.
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, safe, and customer-ready sales floor, stockroom, and work environment.
  • Delivering exceptional customer service by assisting customers with purchases, product selection, and issue resolution in accordance with Museum policies.
  • Supporting opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and point-of-sale (POS) operations.
  • Assigning, prioritizing, and following up on daily operational tasks.
  • Taking initiative to resolve routine operational issues within the scope of the position.
  • Communicating completed work, unfinished work, operational concerns, staffing needs, and barriers before the end of each shift or as soon as issues are identified.
  • Supporting special events, promotions, and Museum programming as assigned.

Store Operations, Inventory and Sales:

  • Monitor inventory accuracy and promptly identify and report inventory discrepancies.
  • Complete cycle counts, inventory audits, stock checks, and product reviews accurately and within established timeframes.
  • Ensure inventory discrepancies are communicated within 24 hours and documented using approved tracking methods.
  • Identify duplicate products, pricing discrepancies, barcode issues, missing product information, and inaccurate inventory records.
  • Communicate low-stock items and potential reorder needs.
  • Receive, inspect, and process merchandise shipments, verifying quantities and reporting damaged or missing merchandise.
  • Enter or update product information in Shopify, when assigned.
  • Print product labels and price tags and ensure merchandise is accurately priced and tagged before reaching the sales floor.
  • Organize, receive, scan, tag, and move merchandise throughout the inventory process.
  • Replenish merchandise to maintain appropriate inventory levels on the sales floor.
  • Maintain organized, accurate, and easily accessible stockroom and backstock areas.
  • Ensure merchandise is processed, displayed, and available for sale within established timelines.
  • Communicate shipment concerns, inventory issues, merchandise delays, and operational challenges requiring follow-up.

Customer Service, Store Promotions & Visual Merchandising

  • Deliver exceptional customer service by greeting guests, answering questions, assisting with product selection, and resolving customer concerns in accordance with Museum policies.
  • Create a welcoming shopping environment that enhances the visitor experience.
  • Maintain visually appealing merchandise displays that support Museum branding and retail objectives.
  • Ensure merchandise is properly signed, priced, and presented according to established merchandising standards.
  • Support product placement, floor replenishment, promotional displays, seasonal merchandise, and special events.
  • Monitor sales floor presentation to ensure products remain organized, fully stocked, clean, and customer-ready.
  • Assist with implementing promotional campaigns and merchandising strategies designed to increase sales.

Cash & POS Management

  • Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system accurately and efficiently.
  • Process customer purchases, exchanges, and returns in accordance with Museum policies.
  • Support opening and closing cash procedures and maintain accurate cash handling practices.
  • Assist with balancing registers and resolving routine POS issues.
  • Ensure accurate pricing and transaction processing while maintaining confidentiality and financial accountability.
  • Report POS system issues or transaction discrepancies promptly using approved communication channels.


Requirements:

Required Education, Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Proficiency in computers with the ability to learn department-specific systems.
  • Two years of retail and customer service experience required.
