Shopify Plus Developer

Burlebo

Job description

About Us:
BURLEBO is a growing brand in men's outdoor clothing, dedicated to providing high-quality, durable, and stylish gear for the Athlete, the Outdoors, and the Family. We are passionate about innovation, sustainability, and performance-driven apparel that empowers our team and customers to explore the great outdoors with confidence.
About the role
We're a fast-growing direct-to-consumer brand, and we're looking for a Shopify Plus Developer to own the technical development of our storefront and the apps that power it.
This is a builder's role with real ownership. You'll write custom Shopify apps, replace third-party apps with in-house solutions where it makes sense, and have a genuine voice in how we improve the customer experience. We don't want someone who only executes a ticket queue - we want a technical partner who brings ideas about performance, conversion, and what's worth building versus buying.
You'll partner closely with our technology leadership and cross-functional teams (marketing, merchandising, ops).
To be considered, please fill out this survey: https://surveys.cultureindex.com/s/VK2opX4gLU/130183
What you'll do
• Build custom Shopify apps using the Shopify APIs (Admin, Storefront, GraphQL) and a modern backend stack (Node.js and/or Ruby) to solve needs that off-the-shelf apps don't, or don't justify their cost..
• Replace paid third-party apps with in-house builds where it makes sense - evaluating which apps are worth bringing under our own control, building the replacements, and maintaining them..
• Develop and maintain our theme - Liquid, JavaScript, HTML/CSS - with an eye toward performance and maintainability..
• Own integrations between Shopify and our other systems (ERP, PIM, subscription, marketing, analytics, fulfillment, etc.)..
• Improve site experience proactively. Monitor site speed, conversion, and UX, and bring forward your own recommendations - not just implement requests handed to you..
• Own technical quality: code review standards, documentation, version control, testing, and safe deployment practices, helping shape how we build..
What you'll own
• The technical roadmap for our Shopify storefront, in partnership with technology leadership..
• The build, deployment, and maintenance of our custom apps and integrations..
• Site performance and the technical side of conversion-rate optimization..
Required qualifications
• 3+ years of software development experience overall, with 1+ years specifically building on Shopify..
• Hands-on Shopify Plus experience..
• Demonstrable custom app development experience using the Shopify APIs and a backend language (Node.js and/or Ruby) - beyond theme customization..
• Strong Liquid, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS skills..
• Experience with third-party integrations (REST/GraphQL APIs, webhooks, data syncs)..
• Comfort working autonomously, with sound judgment about build-vs-buy and long-term maintainability..
• A portfolio or examples of custom Shopify work you can walk us through..
Nice to have
• Headless / Hydrogen experience (or interest in moving us that direction over time)..
• Experience at a high-growth DTC brand..
• CRO / performance optimization track record with measurable results..
• Experience migrating off paid apps to custom solutions..
• Familiarity with our specific integration surface (ERP, PIM, subscriptions, email/SMS platforms)..
Who you'll work with
• Technology leadership - your manager and primary technical collaborator..
• Cross-functional partners in marketing and operations..
What success looks like (first 6-12 months)
• You've ramped on our store architecture and integration landscape..
• You've identified and begun replacing at least one high-cost third-party app with a maintainable in-house build..
• You're proactively surfacing site-experience and performance improvements, with at least a few shipped and measured..
• You've established baseline engineering practices (documentation, deployment, version control) so the work you build is maintainable beyond any single person..
Perks + Benefits
Medical, dental, and vision coverage
401(k) with employer match
Paid parental leave
Paid vacation and sick time
Generous employee discount
Annual company offsites
