Common Search & ComparisonOften compared for managerial responsibilities and strategic rolesCompared for technical expertise and store optimization tasks

The main difference between a Shopify Manager and a Shopify Specialist lies in their scope of responsibilities. Shopify Managers typically oversee entire store operations, team coordination, and strategic planning, while Shopify Specialists focus on technical setup, product management, and store optimization. Both roles require similar credentials and are vital in e-commerce environments, but their focus areas differ based on experience and organizational needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Shopify Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Shopify Manager, you need expertise in e-commerce strategy, product listing management, and online merchandising, typically backed by experience in digital retail platforms. Familiarity with Shopify's dashboard, analytics tools, third-party app integrations, and possibly certifications like Shopify Partner or Shopify Expert are highly valued. Strong organizational skills, creative problem-solving, and effective communication set top performers apart in this role. These skills ensure seamless store operations, drive sales growth, and enhance the overall customer experience on the Shopify platform.

What is a Shopify Manager?

A Shopify Manager is a professional responsible for overseeing and optimizing an online store that uses the Shopify e-commerce platform. Their duties typically include managing product listings, processing orders, handling customer inquiries, implementing marketing strategies, and analyzing sales data to boost performance. They also coordinate with other team members, such as designers and marketers, to ensure the store runs smoothly and efficiently. Shopify Managers need to stay updated on e-commerce trends and Shopify updates to maximize the store’s success.

What are some common challenges a Shopify Manager faces when scaling an online store, and how can they address them?

Shopify Managers often encounter challenges such as maintaining website performance during high-traffic periods, integrating third-party apps, and ensuring a seamless customer experience as the store grows. To address these, they regularly monitor site analytics, collaborate with developers to optimize site speed, and work closely with marketing and customer service teams to streamline operations. Proactively staying updated with Shopify's latest features and best practices also helps in overcoming scaling hurdles effectively.

Job description

About ALSO.

We’re ALSO, an electric mobility company originally conceived as a part of Rivian. We’re a passionate team of builders, dreamers, doers and innovators, focused on creating entirely new (not to mention, innovative and delightful) vertically integrated, small EVs designed to meet the global mobility challenges of today and tomorrow. Our mission is to inspire everyone to ride ALSO—replacing many local car, truck and SUV miles with ones on vehicles that are more affordable, more enjoyable and 10-50x more efficient.

ALSO is looking for a eCommerce Project Manager to evolve our Shopify-based ecommerce experience in a fast-moving, growth-stage environment, managing core projects across the ecommerce team. This is a highly cross-functional, hands-on role for someone who thrives in ambiguity, brings order to complexity, and knows how to turn many inputs—especially from international teams—into focused, coordinated execution. You’ll be the connection point between regional teams, marketing, product, and engineering—ensuring local needs are heard, prioritized, and translated into scalable, global solutions.

What You Will Do

  • Own day-to-day website operations on Shopify, ensuring performance, reliability, and rapid iteration

  • Coordinate and drive website feature and experience initiatives across international and distributed teams, balancing global consistency with local needs

  • Act as the central point of intake for feedback, requirements, and ideas from regional teams—synthesizing inputs into clear, prioritized plans

  • Consultatively gather cross-functional requirements from finance, product, software, marketing, fulfillment operations, and customer experience teams.

  • Translate individual market needs into scalable solutions that work across regions, rather than one-off fixes

  • Partner closely with engineering and software teams to scope work, define requirements, and manage execution

  • Lead cross-functional projects from concept through launch, keeping teams aligned and moving forward

  • Create clarity in fast-changing environments by defining scope, timelines, dependencies, and ownership

  • Document decisions, requirements, and workflows clearly using Asana, Confluence, JIRA, or comparable tools

  • Continuously improve how work gets done—simplifying processes, removing friction, and increasing speed

What You Will Bring

  • 5+ years of Shopify experience, ideally in high-growth or startup environments scaling ecommerce operations across multiple regions or storefronts. DTC experience is strongly preferred, but transferable B2B knowledge will be considered.

  • Experience configuring solutions in Shopify Plus and internationalization (localization, currencies, payments)

  • Proven experience coordinating projects across international teams and time zones

  • Strong project management expertise with the ability to move work forward with the right mix of process and action

  • Agile/sprint planning and management experience required. PMP certification or SixSigma a plus

  • Comfort working cross-functionally with engineering, product, marketing, and design

  • Experience using tools like Asana, Monday.com, JIRA, and Confluence

  • Exceptional ability to bring structure and clarity to complex, ambiguous projects

  • Clear, concise communicator who documents well and keeps teams aligned

  • Background in agile or iterative development environments a plus

The total compensation for this position ranges from $138,000 – $160,000 USD (inclusive of base salary and target bonus), depending on experience, location, and qualifications. This role will be based out of Seattle, WA. Interested candidates must be willing to come into the office 3–5 days a week.

Perks & Benefits

  • Robust health coverage — excellent health, dental, and vision insurance covered up to 100% by ALSO, with FSA & HSA options

  • One Medical membership and dedicated insurance advocates

  • Rich fertility and family-building benefits with Progyny

  • Flexible time off

  • 401(k) match

Why ALSO.

We’re passionate about helping the world find a better way to get there—wherever it is you’re headed.

We’re located in the heart of Silicon Valley and have brought together a world-class team from some of the biggest brands in the technology, automotive, cycling, outdoor recreation and retail spaces.

Together we’re working hands-on to imagine, design and build an entirely new solution to a global set of transportation challenges.
